A Rod&Barrel moment isn’t always that moment when you hoist a big fish out of the water that just gave you a memorable fight that is forever captured in a photo or that moment when that picture is snapped as you lift that buck’s head by ints antlers that you just blood tracked and found. Most Rod&Barrel moments are when all forces of nature come together in perfect union of light, air, water and matter to let you know you are alive at a special moment of time. Like the photo above taken in the remote and not easily accessed backcountry waters of Florida’s Lower Keys. That moment when high sun lights up the azure and aquamarine waters that make up the shallow lakes ringed by small uninhabited keys. That time when winds lay down to 0-mph causing the surface of the water become a perfect mirror of the sky and clouds. Mirror smooth waters that make you feel like your are riding on air as you steer and navigate your boat around the shallow flats and through the channels that bisect those flats and the cuts between the mangrove studded islands. All the while you look for signs of fish either above or below the surface. That, my friends, is a Rod&Barrel moment.
