Kid was birdie's first everything.

She only had a crush when she was around 15-16 years old (official age), for Prince Grus, but he never even knew about it.

Hello! Did you see the shooters at the Olympics?

Their poses were so cool.

I imagine Birdie being a shooter there too. I picture her coming in casual outfit, shoot bullseye and get gold medal before looking for a place to eat food (she is small so she needs to eat a lot -quote from stampede)

After seeing the social media effect, especially on the Turkish guy and the Korean girl, I think birdie too could get pretty popular. 😂 given the unfair One Piece standards, she’d definitely win the gold, but I wonder in a modern AU… I think she’d still make it top three! And they are in France, so next stop is food for sure. She’d eat so much cheese!

DO you have an OC for One Piece? And what other OCs from other people do you like? Thank you!

Thank you for the question. Mh... I don't have specific OCs, but I guess any MC I made for reader-insert story could be turned into an OC, they just lack a physical description after all. So if I had to choose my favorite, I'd obviously pick birdie (many readers already consider her an OC anyway).

A special mention would also go to the MC I crafted for an Arlong x reader one shot (link) - the story is quite brief so not too many details are given, but I did spend some time over the character even if most features didn't make it to the actual os. It's a CP-0 agent that ate the Mythical human zoan, model Demon, and acquired monstrous strength and stamina as a result (among other beastly things that are only hinted at in the story). Not only I like the girl-with-brute-strength trope, but it's super interesting to write a character that is... morally questionable to say the least, given she's a WG agent and doesn't really mind it.

As for other people's OCs, I have to admit I don't often read such stories unless they're from authors/friends I follow. The only one I can mention (and I actually love) is Kyo, KiraReno's OC - a friend and author from Wattpad, currently on indefinite hiatus. Kyo is the result of MONTHS if not YEARS of crafting and studying the canon material, she's very original and well-thought, and a lot of fun to read.

Would birdie every sacrifice herself for her Marine comrades in a battle?

Under the right circumstances, I would say yes, but I'm afraid the reason has more to do with the fact that she's self-destructive than her devotion to her comrades (unless we are talking about Aokiji in a pre-timeskip setup maybe).

Birdie grew up learning that she constantly had to put everything on the line to achieve... anything, really. Proving herself, even at the cost of death, could become more alluring than failure. Plus her life was always considered cheap, by others and herself. This does not mean that she was suicidal or she was always jumping between danger and other marines, but the occasion could arise. I mean, that's what she did for Koby and Helmeppo in Captive.

Of course context is important, but I believe that the ultimate sacrifice should not necessarily be read as a proof of love when it comes to birdie.

I always imagined Birdie having a friend +I think she needs one, especially a close female friend Even if she has trouble dealing with women, I feel like, in the end, she would get used to it and find comfort.

But there’s another question: would Birdie return to the Marines for the sake of her friend, if she had one?

It's difficult to answer the question without knowing what role the friend had in the period of time while birdie was back with the Marines, after being released by Kid. It could have gone in different ways depending on whether birdie was willing to share her experience with her (and how much of it). And if she was, how would her friend react? Ultimately though, it's probable that birdie, once heard about the Kid Pirates, would end up leaving anyway. That last call in Mission Dressrosa would have been to her friend instead of Koby.

If Birdie has a very close female friend for a long time in the marines, would this affect Birdie or how would it affect ?

Hello Anon, thank you for the ask!

I think a close female friend would have done wonder for birdie. Depending on her personality, this character could have help birdie get perspective and stop considering Aokiji the only person worth of her affection. Being alone in a military environment was deleterious, and just one person can be a gamechanger.

Furthermore, birdie has trouble interacting with women. The issue is multifaceted, but one key element is that she grew up seeing being a woman as a hindrance. It wasn't enough being aware of strong female characters such as Tsuru, Hina, Momusagi or the likes, because they weren't a real influence or inspiration in her life. She needed something more concrete. Even if this female friend wasn't the strongest, if they had a true relationship it would still have shown her the beauty of their imperfection.

Having someone to protect, someone she could rely on, it would have changed everything. I believe birdie would be stronger and definitely more confident. Probably also more capable of interacting with other women.

I was rewatching the anime where Garp goes to save Koby and I realised that he was leading the frontier (obviously). But for Birdie’s attempted rescue in Captive, did Garp have any opinion or contribution? Also did he have any after thought when the marines reported her dead after Koby returned?

Hi Anon! Yeah, that episode is amazing.

At the time of Captive, Garp was in the East Blue (or somewhere similarly far away), so he didn't have much of a role there. He probably would have helped Koby if he asked.

Birdie wasn't really reported dead once Koby and Helmeppo got back, they told the truth about what happened, it's just that sending battleships against the Kid Pirates to retrieve one marine that was probably already killed was never deemed a priority. I imagine Koby and Garp had little to no contact at the time.

Garp does appear in Mission Dressrosa and we have a glimpse on his view on the whole situation. He tries to cover up birdie's defection and warn Koby before Sakazuki catches wind of it.

To be fair, with Aokiji being Garp's former pupil, birdie should have had some sort of protection from the Vice Admiral after Aokiji left. But the truth is that Garp was also traumatized by Ace's death: he spent time in the East Blue and almost left the Marines. Meanwhile the fight for the new Fleet Admiral occurred. So he was not there for anyone, and by the time he took an active role in the Marines again, birdie's position was already re-defined.

Garp doesn't strike me as the type that reaches out first to people struggling (unless maybe it's a life/death situation), and birdie isn't one to ask for help, so the two never developed a relationship at any point.
