Caravaggisti 2.0
On the occasion of the successful exhibition "Caravaggio 2025", currently open in the Barberini Gallery in Rome, here is a presentation of the main exponents of the neo-caravaggist trend in contemporay painting of 21st century Italy.
Many of these are already world-renown, but it is interesting to see their artworks here in the same post, to compare them and see if there are any common traits. One thing is sure: Michelangelo Merisi aka Caravaggio was hugely influential in the beginning of the 17th century and then almost forgotten. After his rediscovery in the 20th century, he is now thriving again thanks to this new wave of painters, that follow his style with some contemporary neurotic "twists".

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
That’s a hard one, I’ve ahd so many good advices in my life... But I’d say it was the one from my parents about reading. How it would help me develop my critical thinking and would help improve my language skills, how it’d help me know more about the world, different cultures and times and just broaden my worldview. How it’d also be a solace when I was sad. And you know what? That’s the best piece of advice they’d ever given me.
When’s the last time you followed your instincts?
Earlier today, at class, when chosing between two options I wasn’t sure between. People around me were saying it was this one, but to me... It was the other. There was just something there, though I couldn’t pinpoint what. Turns out I was right.
What’s your favorite food?
CHOCOLATE! And to be more specific, brigadeiro.
What’s your secret dream?
... Well. I may hold this far-off and nearly impossible dream of joining the Brazilian Academy of Letters, like many of Brazil’s greatest writers who I so admire. My dream of being a writer isn’t that much of a secret though.

what’s the best piece of advice you ever received?i think when my therapist told me that it’s never too late to change your life, to change things you’re unhappy with.. she helped me stop feeling like there were these arbitrary deadlines in my life and told me to just focus on things that are happening right now
when’s the last time you followed your instincts?i’m not sure really, i’m not very good with instincts.. maybe this weekend when i insisted we go get the breathing medicine for my nephew cause i felt like he was having a hard time breathing and really needed it?
what’s your favorite food?ooh there’s lots that i love.. pizza, there’s this amazing meatloaf my mom makes, these halloumi wraps i made with my friend
what’s your secret dream?becoming an author (i know i’ve posted it here a few times but i never really talk about it irl so that’s kind of secret)
blue: what do you do when you’re sad?i usually watch a movie or a show i like and probably eat some chocolate. maybe call my mom.
what are some things you do when you can’t sleep?develop the plots of the novels i’m working on in my head.. listen to music, watch YouTube videos
what was the best (non-romantic) night you’ve had?oh this is tough, i’ve had pretty good ones.. it’s hard to single out one. maybe when i went to a music festival with my friends, i was so tired and happy and everyone was singing and dancing. that would be one of the really good ones.

who is the last person you told a secret to?my big sister, i think, when i told her about the new tattoo i’d gotten before telling anyone else
