Lower Sioux turns to hemp for homes that are better quality and better for the environment

The Lower Sioux will be building a hemp processing facility — and the first hempcrete test home — this spring.

Making it easier to grow, process and use the plant in a variety of products and projects. The home is hand-cast hempcrete, so the walls are a foot thick. There is no need for traditional drywall and insulation. The hemp has a very high R-value, in addition to being fire resistant, pest resistant, and carbon NEGATIVE. Our ceilings are insulated with hemp wool, and we are using sustainable finishes.
