Jumping on the apple trend with these two! I just finished Ialott’s introduction story (More Than a Mess Hall) on Ao3 so I’ve been thinking about these fellows a lot:)

Ialott is a Cardassian and was born and raised on Cardassia. He was orphaned at a young age, but was unofficially adopted by a Cardassian family when he was three. He was around six years old when the Dominion War ended and Lakarian City was destroyed. He and his older sister survived this, but by the time Ialott had woken up in the hospital, his sister had died of her injuries.
Ialott took their classes at the Academy part time and mostly from their hospital room. They required weekly monitoring for adverse effects of the exposure as a child, so they weren’t able to attend most of heir classes in person regularly.
Ialott served aboard eight ships before the Curiosity. During the time after the Dominion War, many still held a hostile attitude toward Cardassians, and Ialott didn’t feel safe on most of the ships he served on. Eventually he started requesting reassignment before anything happened, just to avoid having to experience the harassment he was used to.
Ialott was assigned to the Curiosity Program as a last ditch effort to find somewhere they would stay. They began to feel at home there and decided to stay permanently once they and Syfic got closer.
A combination of genetic factors and the environmental exposures as a child caused Ialott to be predisposed to Yarim Fel Syndrome. Aboard the Curiosity he used a preventative form of Hexadrin therapy, but the condition began to develop a little over four years into the Curiosity’s run anyway. Yarim Fel Syndrome is terminal in all cases and Ialott had come to terms with this a long time ago. He struggled more than he expected though, once he had people and a ship to live for. (But that’s all in the future for now)
Currently, Ialott is an incredible nurse with a very pleasant bedside manner. They know exactly when a joke or a hug is needed and always seem bubbly and witty. This performance they put on is only ever really lowered when they’re with Syfic, who they considers not only their bondmate, but their closest friend. Around Syfic, Ialott is quiet and thoughtful, preferring to listen rather than to talk.

He knows the rest of the crew is part of this trope, but there’s no way in hell Ialott will be caught by the love and affection they have for each other. (Spoiler: he gets caught)
