Arts and Crafts: Baby Shower
Lately, I have been really wanting to hang out with a bunch of my friends. I am alone most of the time, not to be confused with lonely. I love my alone time where I can do what I feel like doing rather than be on someone else's schedule. I have a really good friend whom I have known for about 9 or 10 years, and she is having a third child and I wanted to throw the babyshower. We initially discussed a few details about the party and what she wanted. I tried to make it like she envisioned but I think it ended up more like what I envisioned, with the resources I had. I did a lot of crafting for the party because 1. I could not find what I was looking for in the store 2. some of the things I wanted were too expensive and would be more cost-effective to hand make. Also I want to create this blog with pictures and instructions because when I was planning couldn't find many things that were helpful to my project. So hopefully it will help someone. Let's begin.
The first project was big cardboard baby blocks that spelled his name MASON. The colors are blue and brown. I tried to keep it grown and sexy though.
Cardboard boxes, preferably cubed but mine were 16x12x12 (home depot)
Acryllic Paint (Craftsmart brand, Michaels)
Construction paper (higher grade)
Scissors, glue (mod podge, satin finish for its thicker consistency)
Cardstock (DCWV, various themes used for these two projects)
I started by painting the outer corners of the boxes with brown paint to make it uniform and more realistic and not like cardboard in the finished product. Let it dry and I only painted 4 sides because those were the only sides that would be showing. When dry you can either glue the sides down because they will not stay down by themselves or fold the sides inward to make it level.
While drying cut the construction paper with round corners and paint on the stencils. Be careful which glue to use because it could make the paper/cardboard wrinkle especially if it has a high water content same goes with the paint. Be patient and give yourself some time. The square sides had the cardstock paper and the rectangular sides had the cardboard and stenciled letters.
Next project is using the same things but adding in cardboard letters. I borrowed this idea from youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8a5RdghjGE and it explains it perfectly what I did. I think this project is better for shorter names.
and some extra pics of the party, we gave away cookies in mason jars for favors, wrapped in burlap and ribbon.
This wonderful food was prepared by the Auntie and it was delicious!
The banner was bought at dollar tree and was painted by the Sister
