HE’S LEANED FORWARD , knuckles balancing his jaw , lips slightly parted in awe . jerry was no CX100 , but that didn’t mean he was bad on the eye at all . alfie admits to himself , albeit a little embarrassed , that he always had a penchant for gingers . “ so , tell me your story . ” he says , voice soft . “ i’m not going to put you in any danger . ” @careousels .

SHE IS SO TIRED , but keeps awake long enough for jerry to finish the story she had told him , brushing her hair for a hundred strokes to make it shine , then neatly braiding it so it wouldn’t tangle overnight . she yawns as he ties the end of it , before she leans against him , shuffling into his lap once he’s finished , closing her eyes . “ thank you … ” she mumbles through a yawn . it’s amazing to feel so comfortable , so at peace , but her intuition for people has been top notch , there’s no reason why she shouldn’t trust those she considers family .

after a spot of play (is hide and seek better or worse when everyone you're looking for is identical?) the mouthpiece has alice swaddled in a blanket, using his considerable strength to bounce her into the air. when she's laughing, he peppers her face with kisses, giggling himself. JOY IS A LUXURY THAT ALICE HAD ONCE CONSIDERED RARE , but now things seem so different , and she can’t say that the change is unwelcome . she laughs loudly , a bright child’s giggle that had been estranged from her body for so long . she screams when she jumps in his arms , rosy cheeks alight with a smile . ‘ i thought you’d never find me , but you’re the best at it ! ’ she cheers , kicking her legs in her blanket , radiating the joy that a child was always supposed to .
