How did you guys meet?
We met through an app called Badoo. Originally, I was just using Tinder when I was doing my internship in the United States. Then a friend told me that she was using Badoo and told me to try it and so I did. I had a lot of matches and messages then I landed on Carl’s profile. We matched, he messaged me and it was the start of something new.
Where was your first date?
Our first date was at Mackinaw City in Michigan. I live at Mackinac Island at that time so I took the ferry going to the mainland and he drove for an hour from Gaylord.
How long have you been together?
10 months down, forever to go!
Where/when was your first kiss?
Our first kiss happened on our first date (lol). It happened on Mackinaw City.
Who said I love you first?
I said I love you first. When we first started talking, he mentioned that he hasn’t received any valentine for valentine’s day. So, on the day we met, I gave him a card that says “I love you more than pizza... and I really love pizza.” and I wrote a short letter inside the card and at the end, I wrote: “will you be my valentine everyday?” and he said yeah. I know, I know it’s too fast, but we’ve been talking for almost two weeks before we met and there was something about him that I really liked and of course I had to make a move. The day after we met, we’re officially official.
What was the craziest thing you guys have ever done?
A week after Carl and I met, he told me that we’re going on a roadtrip. I didn’t know that I will meet some of his friends and of course I got nervous. They were Cody and Chelsey. We all hung out and drank. Chelsey was pregnant at that time so she was the driver because she was the sober one. We decided to go swimming so we went home to change. Carl and I went to the restroom to change but it turned into a hot make out session and... yeah it happened. He also accidentally put it in the wrong hole AND OH MY GOD IT HURT. then we drank some more, swam, drank, went home, ordered pizza for dinner and watched a movie. Cody and Chelsey decided to sleep and went to their room. Carl and I stayed in their living room and got in the mood so we did it there. And... Carl said.. “Chelsey went out and saw us”. Oooops.
What is the hardest part of your relationship?
We’re in a long distance relationship right now. I was supposed to go back to the US last April but shit happened and I decided to just stay here in the Philippines to work. A lot of people is scared of long distance relationships, and yes it’s true, it’s scary, it’s super hard especially when I have days where I just want his presence and his hugs and kisses. But, I’m learning to appreciate our relationship more and more each day. Time apart is beneficial. We’re learning to communicate better, to respect each other, to commit, to love and to understand. More patience and trust.
Is there anything bothering your relationship?
There’s no perfect relationship. Of course, knowing that we’re in a LDR, sometimes, it puts our trust to the test. I know him though, he won’t cheat. No one’s gonna cheat.
What’s your message for Carl?
That.. even though the past month was the hardest part of our relationship and even though there was a time I really wanted to give up, I realized that none of these problems are permanent. Everything’s gonna be alright and it will eventually fall into place. I’m so thankful to have you. That even though it’s hard, we’re still here baby. We’re still fighting. Time will come, we will be together and we won’t worry about the distance. We are on our way to brighter days. I love you so much. More and more everyday.

3 years ago, about this time, I had just settled in to binge watch Orange is the New Black. Being super pregnant, I got up to pee (for the 100th time) and my water broke. I was scared because I knew it was early, excited because I finally got to meet the sweet boy I had been carrying for nearly 35 weeks, irritated that I had absolutely nothing ready. He had a rough start, but here we are! To the boy he made me a mother, happy birthday. I love you more than any words will ever be able to describe. You have grown to be such an amazing little man. You're so smart and kind. So curious about the world. I can't wait to see where life takes you as you grow.
