Carmen Goldenstein’s life had always been hectic: moving every six months or so, always without warning and hurriedly, she had to learn to live out of a suitcase. She never understood why, until one week before her eighteenth birthday, her father told her the truth: about how they were hiding from a coven of witches that wanted her dead, about how she herself was a witch. They kept running, until one day, the coven got too close and Carmen’s father sacrificed himself to make sure she escaped. When she went back for his body, he wasn’t there, the coven had taken him with them. Carmen wished she could have her revenge but she was not strong enough.
