that update was a fucking rollercoaster.. but guys. WE GOT PUPCUP CRUMBS. GUYS WE GOT FOOD.
yes, okay, maybe cuphead sucked actual ass at flirting but hey PUPCUP NONTHELESS— ITS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS RIGHT. RIGHT???
okay, glad we’re on the same page.
maybe cuphead did want to scare boris a tad bit, make him question his morals all over again, but in the end it did feel genuine in a way— it definitely felt soft, or maybe that’s just me. maybe im just crazy. don’t agree on that.
“i don’t like it when people are sad” IN THIS SCENE HE’S LITERALLY SAYING HE DOESNT LIKE SEEING BORIS LIKE THIS. he doesn’t enjoy seeing someone being upset, especially when he has part in causing said distress.
even after absolutely fumbling the bag, cuphead reacts like this: cheery and go lucky, as if hoping his attempt at cheering boris up worked, which obviously didn’t— and cuphead realized that, admitting he made things worse.
but hey, let’s really take a look at the first three panels. now, i’m no expert at analyzing, so this is probably gonna be a really shitty attempt at doing so, but this is how i interpret it: cuphead explains their past encounter about him originally wanting boris to kill him, even going as far as saying ‘i WANTED you to do that’ : not entirely sure if the fact it’s past tense matters, but i feel like it definitely could indicate that he doesn’t want it anymore. he doesn’t actively seek it like he did when he was desperate back in the forest just to prove boris didn’t have morals— to prove boris was just like him, in a way.
“i wanted to prove that you had what it takes to survive out there. because it ain’t no picnic yogi!” : we know this isn’t necessarily true, when they had originally met i doubt cuphead had any intentions of actually wanting to make sure boris was competent enough to stay alive out in the real world, but, he could definitely view it as that way now. especially considering the fact he finished off with saying, “i gave you a test and you ACED it! flyin’ color— oh.”, he himself is admitting that by boris not going through with it, he did something good. i read this as cuphead being impressed by boris not folding under pressure and keeping his morlas in check despite cuphead having been extremely pushy and persistent to break said morals.
basically, i feel like even though cuphead did end up making things worse, his thought behind it was genuine to an extent— i mean, that sort of praise makes sense coming from him considering he probably doesn’t know any other way to deal with a sensitive situation. i feel he definitely lacks in that department, even with mugman. to him this probably reads as admiration, but to boris it’s just taking him back to the most traumatic encounter he had with this guy.. yeahhh, someone needs to seriously help cuphead out with improving his social skills, because boy do his current skills SUCK ASS.
im quite tired while writing all of this so it’s probably not the best in the world, hopefully i can improve skills of my own in the future, i feel like i have so many ideas in this little noggin of mine but when it comes to actually putting it out on paper i fail tremendously LMFAO
hope some of you enjoyed my shitty pupcup analysis, CARMENSO OUT 👅
