Kinda A Spoiler For Capt. Marvel?
I felt like Carol “The Avenger” Danvers was too obvious and out-there. If Carol had said something like, “I’m going to Avenge them”, and Fury thought about it later and said, “ ‘Avenge us’, huh?” and then typed it, I felt like it would have fit better.
My friend, Ismail, had some things to say about Captain Marvel and some people's reactions to her and the movie. I think he is pretty spot on and said I could share his words:
"Captain Marvel is getting more hate than most superhero movies before its release. I always said to myself it was just a bunch of sexists that can't accept a female hero. The same issue with Star Wars and many other franchises. But then many of those people made the point that they're not sexist because they've enjoyed many female heroes before (Ripley, Sarah Connor, Alita, Wonder Woman, Princess Leia, Lara Croft, etc). And then it occurred to me that they're right.
These people don't hate the idea of a female hero. They hate the idea of a feminine one. Specifically, a feminine hero that's not sexual. What do all the heroes they mention have in common? All of them are masculine, "sexy", or both. These people have no problem with a female hero.....as long as that hero is tailored to their taste.
I for one am excited to see Captain Marvel in theaters and to see a woman finally becoming the face of the most successful film franchise in history (taking over from Iron Man and Captain America, RIP). I'm tired of the idea that you can't be powerful and feminine at the same time.
To all the Carol Danverses, Reys, Daisy Johnsons, and more... I hope you continue being yourselves and inspire the next generation to want to become heroes like yourselves."
That first-look from the Captain Marvel movie has me pumped!
