Skateistan is a school in Kabul (founded in 2007) where girls learn to read, write, and skateboard. Participation in sporting activities being forbidden to girls, the skateboard lessons take place in an indoor skate-park at the school. We see a bit of their classroom education, we hear a little about changes in Afghanistan over the last few decades, and we follow the learning path of these new skateboarders through a school term, from learning to stand on a board to taking on ramps. It's a haven of joy and hope in a city plagued by terror attacks in a country subject to seemingly eternal warfare.
