1915 Ornate Rose Parker | The Carousel Musuem
Knoebel's Carousel Museum
We took a trip to Knoebel's a couple of years ago to catch a few rides, enjoy some good food and visit the museums again. I was specifically looking for the Country Bears for one of my mutuals, but I also thought I'd share a few pictures from the Carousel Museum since it's kind of in theme with all the medieval fantasy I post and reblog.
While these "horses" and panels are only a hundred years old, the history of carousels dates back to the middle ages and has roots in martial cavalry training and games such as jousting competitions. The Grand Carousel at Knoebel's offers outside riders the chance to catch the brass ring, harkening back to tournament jousting games.
Growing up with it, I never realized just how impressive the Grand Carousel and it's finely crafted horses actually is. The Uncle Sam horse pictured above is one of a pair carved by Charles Carmel the other of which is still in use on Knoebel's Grand Carousel.
The New England Carousel Museum asked me to read Tarot at their annual Zombie Ball. $25/person, BYOB
Connecticut Zombie Ball at the Carousel Museum. Last year it was $25, BYOB.
