What's your favourite memory?
Squirt thought back to that brisk autumn day the year previous.
"Probably the first time we went shopping as a family."
It hadn't been long since the Tracys had accepted them in as one of their own and it was decided that they would be needing furniture for their room to truly make it their own and help them settle in. Not one to skip out on such an opportunity, Grandma had planned to make a family day out of it and knock out a bunch of to-dos in one; furniture shopping, Christmas shopping, supply run, family dinner. Plans written out, maps drawn up, schedules cleared, everyone was coming along. A proper, normal family day out.
It was the first time Squirt had experienced anything like it, the organised chaos, the bickering, the splitting off and coming back together, the free reign to do whatever they wanted with the security of family around them. It was exciting but terrifying, a rollercoaster of emotions leaving them dizzy but they were never without a hand to hold when things got too much.
They'd learnt a lot about their siblings that day, it was an environment that they'd never seen them all in, switched off from being the world's only hope to just being regular people indulging in the mundane and simple, catching a moment to just spend time together for once. The love and adventure and the chance to bond without imminent disaster hanging over them was what made it so special.
