Sorry for all these images, I know no one likes long gallery posts, but I thought this was needed.
I just saw the new Powerpuff Girls show and... it was bad, man. Really bad. Not even talking about the plot itself, which could’ve been salvaged, but from the pure animation standpoint, how the camera works, staging, and most of all CHARACTER DESIGN, everything was just a trainwreck. Sorry.
I really don’t want to hate on shows blindly. I give every new thing some time, think about it, but it’s been a month of watching clips, thinking about the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I just can’t keep my mouth shut anymore.
Can you guys repost these images to the staff working on the PPG reboot? Did they see how many mistakes they made, how all the “new” changes they proposed don’t really work?
I don’t know how much of this was from some dumb higher up that works at Cartoon Network and thinks he knows what’s best for the station, and how much was because of the new direction the show has, but let’s be real - Craig even back then, and with his new Wander Over Yonder, shows that he clearly understands the basic concepts that made the golden age of MGM and Looney Tunes work, even when his budget was little and he had to get around it.
The people who work on this show clearly aren’t, well, sorry... they clearly aren’t good at their job. The background art sometimes really does look great, but other times it’s so bizzare and out of place, especially with the new character design, which kinda sucks in every possible way. I understand they wanted to go with more rounded up shapes, but the lack of any definition in lines (especially making you bleed out of your eyes in the YouTube vlog episode), the background characters looking like some overly developed inserts taking your eyes away from the main characters, and the colours themselves, overly bright and with no overall tone (besides the lava fight, probably why it’s considered the best looking part right now by many).
Clearly, the new show is no Craig McCracken level and no one expected it to be. But in the age of Wander, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe and Gumball, it shows you can have a simple style and make it work. And this show doesn’t work.
I’m sorry if my opinion angers you. I hope you do better with your future shows, but this one, as of now, just sucks.

I got this guy from Megga Egg and his attacking sounds are... well, I must say, awesome XD
Do all you 90's kids want to lose your minds from this nostalgia bomb? Watch this unaired episode of Dexter's Laboratory before it gets taken down. Too explicit for the day.
Tonight on 'Teen Titans GO!'
Nice to see that Warner Bros. haven't forgotten about two of their animated classics despite them bombing in the box office.
