#JackedKirby - Jack Kirby, Animator Extraordinaire!!! After Kirby bounced back and forth between Marvel and DC crating comics through the years it was time to make some real money... and the path was going through be animation, not comics. Alex Toth, Gil Kane, Steve Gerber and bunch of other comic creators began transitioning into animation. Their artistic talents and writing skills were necessary components in storyboarding and scripting cartoons. Ruby Spears brought Jack in to work on some of their cartoons, and over time he would eventually lend a hand to Hanna Barbera cartoons as well. One of the cartoons he helped out on was familiar subject matter to him... Super Friends, based on the pantheon of DC Comics heroes!!! Jack did some character designs for potential villains to be faced by the team... two that have seen the light of day are The Super Monster and Dr. Frankenstein. The Super Monster is a combination of Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman. He is listed as 9ft tall and would probably sport the abilities and weapons of the Big 3. He is also a monster with some very big Kirby hands!!! Dr. Heinrich Frankenstein (different than Victor Frankenstein?) is shown is full doctor garb, which seems to be more turn of the century than early 80s style. He is listed to be the same height as Superman in the notes on the sketch. Both of these concepts are really cool. Not sure if they ever appeared on the show itself, but both are supposedly from 1981 and labeled 162-7 (not sure what that means).
