yesterday, i was just saying there was no point to Daryl's storyline whatsoever. today, after hearing what Norman Reedus had to say about it, i started to make sense of some of it, i think. the problem i still have with it is having to rely on interviews for the actors to explain the intention behind their character's actions.
so here's some food for thought based on that interview: SPOILERSSSSS and POSITIVITY AHEAD. PROCEED WITH CAUTION
like Zabel, Norman also doesn't believe the kiss is any more meaningful than two people experimenting, something that wasn't a given or necessity, so what was it??? WHY. why now, Daryl??
if this is meant to be taken as Daryl experimenting with idea of romantic feelings for someone, are they totally ignoring the Leah storyline? so was Leah not a girlfriend? was she just a girl who was a friend to Daryl? cause that is confusing. me, Norman and apparently AMC, all want to ignore Leah was ever a thing, so SURE. FINE. WHATEVER. let's ignore it.
so Daryl went looking for something, they keep mentioning it, so what Daryl went looking for was a happy ending? had he never considered to share his life with a romantic partner before? cause that's what it sounds like. i could buy it. and it seems like this is what Norman is trying to sell:
so the thing with Isa becomes a "what is this," so this could be something that would be fulfilling to Daryl, to share a life with someone that way, except she's not a "this is it." she's not THE ONE. the one with whom Daryl would like to settle down, share a romantic bond with cause the one is an ocean away, or so he thinks.
i see this as a prelude to Caryl, i don't think it's bad per se. did i like that it happened? NO, of course NOT, but i could see a bigger picture being told about how Carol and Daryl go from friends to lovers.
and i feel even better about it, knowing what happens in ep 4, and how that old couple (not married, but def romantically involved) is the epitome of what Norman talked about Daryl wondering if he should settle with someone and share their lives together on a farm for the rest of his days. i think that is his happy ending. and Carol's too!
EDIT TO ADD:
Norman also mention Daryl not being like Rick and Shane or Glenn.
i see people taking it as if he means Daryl will never have a romantic connection again, but as i see it Norman is just saying don't expect Daryl to have any more of this experiments. he will not become the new bachelor of the apocalypse and find a new woman in every city. nor will he have sex with a girl he just met cause he thinks she's cute. i think he is saying is, no matter how long that takes, will be Daryl's "this is it." so i guess i'm glad Daryl and Carol will have s3 and s4 to find a metaphorical farm for two aka their happy ending! TOGETHER.
am i disgustingly positive enough for you? or do i make some reasonable points and any sense?
Hello, Carylers, here’s my thoughts on the “spoilers”.
First off, I think it sounds suspicious. I don’t know how believable it is that Norman wants NY and Melissa doesn’t… wouldn’t they have already established where they would be filming? Also, wouldn’t some kind of compromise be made as to the location if needed? It just sounds off to me.
Assuming by some chance this is a real spoiler, I don’t think it’s anything to get upset over regarding Caryl canon. 11c has already been scripted and filmed… Caryl is either going canon or they’re not. Keep that in mind.
How would they make Caryl canon AND make a Daryl spin-off with no Carol? I don’t know the specifics, but if they were desperate enough it could be done.
It’ll suck if the spoiler is true, but it’s not the end of the world. Just remember, the question of canon or no canon is ALREADY answered. Everyone knows but the viewers 😉
How we feeling Caryl nation? Spec about the title of the “untitled” Carol and Daryl spinoff may be a spoiler has been going around for a long time, but it seems like more people are picking up on it now. So, I decided to make a post with my prediction of the spinoff title just in case I am right.
WARNING SPOILERY THOUGHTS AFTER THE JUMP ...
The Dixons? NAH. It’s kinda tacky for a zombie show. So I’m putting all my money on:
TILL THE DEAD DO US PART
Do I even need to explain why it would be spoilery? I think it speaks for itself. Am I absolutely or am I totally wrong? Sound off in the comments! Leave your best guess! I wanna hear it! Come on!!!!!!!!
Today (March 28) is the 1 year anniversary of DIVERGED, an episode that got some very negative reviews, but to me is one of the best episodes of THE WALKING DEAD ever. It gave us a deep dive into Carol and Daryl, as individual characters as well as them as a team, a unit, and how strong their bond is even when they are not on best terms. Only intellectuals will understand. 😉
This episode, written by Heather Bellson and directed by David Boyd, is basically my favorite comfort episode. It is the epitome of longing, pining, and soulmatism. When 2 people are so deeply connected that they could actually survive without each other, but they sure couldn’t live without them. Daryl and Carol will always be each other’s person, the one person that makes your life easier and worth living. Their paths have diverged. They have a long journey of self-discovery and acceptance ahead of them, but they will soon find their way back to each other.
ONLY 2 EPS LEFT TO FILM AND IT’S DONE!!!!! While everybody be like ‘oh, i’m so emotional TWD is ending *cries*’, I am legit like absolutely ecstatic. I cannot wait for it to be finally over. Don’t get me wrong, it’s one of my fav shows ever, and I do love the ensemble cast.
HOWEVER, Carol and Daryl as characters, individually and together, mean soo much to me that I’m more than ready to solely focus on them, their journey, their interactions with other characters they meet along the way on their roadtrip spinoff. It will be all about Carol and Daryl, the way they interact with other people and each other, the way they will make a difference in the lives of so many new people. I am crazy mad excited about it!
This SPINOFF was always a dream, and it’s coming true! Imagine Norman didn’t even know Daryl was supposed to die in his first episode, and Melissa never thought Carol was gonna survive s1. Yet the Carol/Daryl/Caryl fandom been around for over a decade now! LOOK AT US NOW! Norman/Daryl and Melissa/Carol - from small guest roles (Mel didn’t even have her name in the s1 opening credits), to leading characters and stars of their own SHOW.
imagine dissing showrunner Angela Kang, a female writer of color in a genre totally dominated by men, who breathed new life into a dying franchise and brought #caryl back from the ashes, and forgetting Scott Gimple exists!! the same white dude responsible for the worst seasons of the show ever, who kept dangling that carrot, leaving crumbs to keep us salivating, and always stopped short of ever actually delivering anything.
i may dislike and disagree with some directions AK choose to take, but i’ll never ever forget those Gimple seasons i’d rather poke my eyes out than watch that shitshow.
how to remember Commonwealth’s Carol and Daryl? still hyperaware of their surroundings, not properly comfortable quite yet cause they do not easily trust people, so they are trying to work it out from the inside and to find necessary allies. they don’t have much personal time to figure out what is going on between them yet, but they are making an effort to spend more time with each other.
Daryl does not ever lose an opportunity to get his favorite donuts from a particular bakery in order to catch up with a special baker with an old interest in tabloids, and casually ask her out on lunch dates. on the other hand, Carol immediately calls in the cavalry and saves the life of the hottest new trooper in town cause he was 5 mins late for the lunch. the two still got time to co-parent the Grimes kids. and soon, they will both be pivotal in the fight to take down corruption at CW.
FUNNY STORY (minor ending spoilers after the jump) so YOU’VE BEEN WARNED
when the caryl spinoff was still a go, it was argued uncle! Daryl would/could never leave Judith and RJ behind, but no one ever mentioned how aunt! Carol might feel about it. it was always assumed she would be fine leaving those kids, when she had such an important role in Judith’s early life, specially in keeping her alive and taking care of her. yeah, after Rick’s disappearance, Carol didn’t see Judith for a longest time, but they were always and always will be family. it’s not Daryl saw much of Judith either for all those years he was living and searching for Rick in the woods.
anyways, uncle! Daryl and aunt! Carol would always be two of the most important people in the Grimes’ kids lives. they would always be the closest people they would have to their actual parents. no one can erase that family history. SOOOO, after the caryl spinoff cancelation and the confirmation of a Daryl solo spinoff, i find it ironic, it will actually be Daryl the one who will leave those kids behind to go on some sort of crazy suicide mission in Europe.... a whole ocean away from the people he loves the most.
i’m not pointing fingers (JUST THE IRONY!) cause we all know AMC’s TWD is not character driven - so the character (Daryl and Carol, included) will not do what makes most sense for their characters’ story/development. the characters will go wherever the plot takes them no matter how contrived it may sound/look.
no matter what, fanon will forever be superior. so for me personally, after co-parenting/dating/taking down the whole CW government, Carol and Daryl will take time for themselves, go see the world and whoever is left out there on their way to New Mexico. they will finally arrive at Roswell, where they will encounter the first alien walkers in TWDU. they continue their journey further east, and finally settle down for a good vacay at an abandoned luxurious waterfront mansion in Malibu and that’s MY TWD ENDING!
it’s 2021 already, and all people want is for Carol and Daryl to finally get together. imagine that? imagine that power? imagine being mentioned alongside the most popular non-canon ship to come this year...
now imagine an EP for the show (aka Gale Anne Hurd) tweeting about it on Xmas’ eve!?!
