I’ll Be Okay
Carol and Daryl X G/n!reader – Angst
Tw: Character death, blood
A/n: finally after 4-5 months, I get this out, I wrote this in school so yerpee, I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH TO READ THE TRIGGER WARNING
Leaves and sticks crunch softly between your feet, as you and Daryl walk through the forest. You had both been tracking a deer for a solid hour, waiting for the perfect time to shoot down your next meal. The deer stopped at a small pond and leant forward, licking up the water.
“I’ll go around the other side, in case it tries to run,” You whisper to him.
He nods, and you split apart. You sneak around the deer to the other side and Daryl aims his crossbow at the deer. The silence echoes throughout the woods, as Daryl lines his crossbow up with the deer’s head, ensuring a quick end. As he pulls the trigger on his weapon, you step on a stick, startling the deer, making it run off. The arrow goes straight through where the deer was before and hits you in the chest.
You stumble back, your hand instinctively clutching your wound. Daryl freezes. He just shot you. He drops his crossbow and runs over to you.
“NO! No!” He scooped you up in his arms.
The red liquid leaking out of your chest as he runs back to Alexandria. He’s cursing under his breath, guilt exploding in his chest. He can’t lose you, you’re the closest thing he has to family left, and he ruined it. He stumbles as he runs, drowning in panic. He’d never felt like this before. He can’t handle it.
Aaron and Glenn pull open the gates, seeing the distressed state Daryl is in. Their own concern skyrockets. Daryl runs past them, straight to Carol’s house.
“Carol!” He yells, his voice cracking as he barges through her door.
“Daryl?” She comes out of the kitchen and her face falls as well, “What happened?!”
She rushes around the room, gathering anything that might be helpful. Daryl tries to explain as he places you on the couch but lets out a choked sob instead. Carol hears the sound and freezes for a second before moving even faster.
“Deep breaths, Daryl. They’ll be fine.”
She moves over to you, noticing the grip Daryl has on your hand. She wants to cry too, but one of them must stay clear minded enough to treat you. She pulls up your shirt, to see the wound. The sight makes her sick, but she pushes through it, for the sake of you and Daryl.
Carol wraps the gauge around your torso, keeping the pressure on it. The next few minutes fly by, you fade in and out of consciousness.
“I’ll…be okay…D….I promise…don’t worry ‘bout me.” You mumble, your words slurred with pain.
Daryl lets out another choked sob as he presses his forehead to your hand. He mumbles so many “I’m sorry”’s.
Your head hurts and there’s still a throbbing in your chest. It only gets worse, but you try to hide it, for the sake of Daryl. Your tongue is heavy, and your mouth is dry. Your tired eyes close. The speed of your chest, rising and falling starts to slow.
“Y/n! Come on, don’t do this now! Open your eyes, please.” She cups your cheeks.
Daryl’s sobs get louder. When he finally looks up, he sees your stilled chest, your closed eyes and your pale face.
“You promised.” He whispers.
