FEDERAL CASE UPDATE: Luigi is no longer using his court-appointed death penalty lawyer, Avraham Moskowitz. Now that he no longer faces capital punishment.

BREAKING: Luigi Mangione's New York State court has released the press plan for his upcoming trial. It will last 6-8 weeks, 4 days/week (~24-36 days in total). Press will only be allowed to take photos before hearings begin and not throughout the whole proceedings - just like they did during suppression hearings back in December. "Occasionally" video recording will be permitted at judge's discretion.

My initial thoughts are below.

I’m not suprised he doesn’t have a laptop yet. Things move especially slow in the court and prison systems — especially at the federal level. I think this will likely get the hearing continued/delayed.

Paragraph 3: I think it’s very interesting that they specifically did not supply defense with this information, and even stranger that the team hung their hat on it for this motion. That quote/line of reporting must’ve caused a lot of upset.

Paragraphs 7-8 are solid arguments

Refusing to communicate with opposing counsel via phone is so strange… and don’t get me started on an opposing lawyer who doesn’t respond to emails. This is such a maddening part of practice!! And then for the prosecution to say “we could have handled this”… I’m glad she called this out!! Typically, there is nothing a judge hates to do more than having to listen to attorneys bicker about discovery. You are heavily encouraged to handle any production of discovery disputes outside of the court, so for the Defense to have to make so many deficiency pleas, and then for the Prosecutor to say that they could’ve handled it themselves was definitely strategic. They tried to make the defense look bad for all of the discovery pleas, and I think she cleared that point up well.

CONCLUSION: I think that the hearing is getting pushed. I know it’s frustrating for those who want to see him, but it’s unfortunately an extremely common occurrence. From my experience, far more hearings get rescheduled than hearings that actually go on their setting. It’s frustrating, but not abnormal!
