okay but the song slipping through my fingers through casey's perspective

like the way that she watches lena grow up in the hospital and is there by her side through every single milestone big and small. until one day lena's transfered to another hospital and so she watches her grow up through the photos lena sends.

her and her husband would attend every single one of lena's graduations and casey would always freak out when lena walked across the stage. she'd be screaming and clapping and crying because lena's the closest thing she has to a daughter, and sure, maybe the other people in the audience think her reaction is a bit much but they don't know that she watched lena fight for her life for years and years on end

and then one day after all the graduations, once lena's made it through med school and has become the doctor casey always knew she would be, she doesn't need casey the way that she used to. they talk on the phone less and less and casey always lets lena text first because she doesnt want her to feel pressured into maintaining a relationship.

over time, they both start to feel distance from one another. but casey still has old photos of little 11-year-old lena in scrubs 3 sizes too big hung on her fridge next to pictures of lena taken before her first day of surgical residency. and casey is still the person lena wants to call whenever something goes wrong, even if she cant bring herself to reach out

okay i have to know did casey ever want to have children of her own?

no i don’t think she’d ever want kids and i feel like her job would be the reason why. she sees first hand all the horrible things that can happen to them- she’s watched so many kids die and/or go through years and years of grueling treatment.

i feel like casey would definitely have ptsd from being a nurse (the rates of nurses that have ptsd is super high- like over 50% last time i checked) and that would also turn her away from being a parent. she’s also just so career oriented- she spends so much time in the hospital wether it be for lena or other kids and i think that would always be her priority. she’d know she cares more about medicine and being there for the kids at work and that it wouldnt be fair to bring a child into the world when she spends most of her time at the hospital anyways.

i see her and elliot (her husband) having fostered like older teens here and there and keeping in contact with them even after they leave, but neither of them would ever be interested in adoption. i just don’t think casey would’ve been that into the idea of being a mom- and she’d be okay with having lena be almost like a daughter to her
