On September 22, 2006, Cassie Stoddart had her life cut short while house-sitting for her aunt and uncle in Bannock County, a county in the southeastern portion of Idaho. Two of Cassie's classmates, Torey Adamcik and Brian Draper, made the motion to stalk and film Cassie before doing the unthinkable later that night. A day and a half to two days later on September 24, Cassie's cousin, who was 13-years-old at the time, was the first person to have spotted Cassie upon entering her Bannock County home.
Evidence found at Blackrock Canyon suggests that the two suspects had gotten into costume and wanted to instill fear in Cassie and her boyfriend, Matt (before he left later on that evening with his mother), showing their malicious intent after they have tried luring the couple downstairs into the basement. Other evidence shows that there were thirty stab wounds on Cassie's body, twelve of those wounds being fatal. It appears that the two suspects brutally attacked her while the house was dark as they had turned off the power in the basement once more before coming up the stairs.
On September 27, 2006, only five days after Cassie's passing, Torey Adamcik and Brian Draper were arrested on charges of first-degree murder as well as a conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. In 2007, both Adamcik and Draper have received life sentences without the possibility of parole as well as receiving 30-years-to-life sentences for the conspiracy to commit first-degree murder charges. To this day, both suspects remain imprisoned at the Idaho State Correctional Institution.
