The parallel between Flynn’s failed date and Cassandra’s, ‘not really happening right now’ date was interesting to me. These two people were facing death this ep and what’s their go to coping mechanism… A date.
Im convinced that Flynn wasn’t going to propose but to tell Eve the truth about the eye. Being truthful has been a thing this season so I really do believe that’s where he was headed. From my stand point, this was Flynns last stages of grief and it was Acceptance. He’s ready to go now, he just wants to tell Eve and give her the vacation he promised and the attention he’s been lax in giving her. But it failed…Eve confronted him to tell her the truth but it was never spoken. They had to leave for Cassandra. They still havent to approach this subject.
Who else had a failed date plan that day.. Oh yeah… Cassandra.
This here is why no one can convince me that this was just a ‘I wanna go some where safe with out hurting anyone so Im picking Jenkins?’ move. Bullshit I say. When Cass stepped out that doctors room, she probably felt sorta like what Flynn is feeling right now. ‘I’m really gonna die, maybe I should try to spend my last day/ night? with this person I care most about if this is my last chance.’ To him that was Eve, this lovely woman who sees him as a hero while she’s sitting there being the most important guardian in the world. To her that was Jenkins. The person who works the closest with her when’s she’s not in the field, and I wouldn’t doubt they spend a lot of time sharing that lab often given their love of science. The one that, besides Ezekiel, she’s always been affectionate towards and who has mostly reciprocated that feeling of affection back over the course of their relationship, without emotional trust issues and walls in the way. The one who tells her about his past openly (… Arthur) for the most part. The one who, again other then Ezekiel, is ‘mostly’ supportive with her using minor magic (Nessie egg protection Charm/The Oracles box with supervision) They’re close. They’ve been close for awhile. They aren’t at the heart eyes level that Eve and Flynn are, but her feelings were just as valid and her request was legitimate as it gets. She’s was gonna tell him why and how she felt first … But then she got cut off by Ezekiel/the mission. She gave him like part of a truth when she was angry, but not the same as what she was gonna say. And not the truth about what was happening.
Because she did hurt him. She lied about what was really wrong(like Flynn on why he really dragged Eve out to Alaska? ) he had to hear it from her doctor. Which sent him after her. He fought vamps while probably worried that he might be too late. Just….. Don’t touch me… I’m still fragile over this.
And he was upset. She wasnt just waiting to die anymore, she actually almost did right there, and she lied to him about it. Him
Like how I feel Eve is gonna be upset at Flynn, ‘there’s always another way’ Carsen planning to die, and hasn’t told her yet.
In the end, Jenkins does tell her that he does love her, maybe not how she wants, not right now…. (don’t get me started on the way he grabbed for her and that slide and his reaching fingers and him standing at the fucking ER door and the pacing. Completely platonic my ass. That was every sappy romance ER trope in one sequence. He did everything BUT kiss her ) or maybe never….. ( unrequited love vows Jenkins… Really?! That is like ‘the’ weakest excuse. Literally. It never works! Isn’t that the same shit that got your father in trouble. Your mother even?! Some one, help me out here cause I’m sure this was a thing that caused some of that trouble in Camelot right?! )
but he does. Love. Her and you can pry those words out of my cold dead fingers.
she gets her life back and her day still ends with a kiss. Probably not the one she was thinking about when she left the doctor’s at the start, but one she deserved all the same.
Just couldn’t help but see this parallel. Wondering if it was the writing or his directing. Both is good. With the reveal of Cassandra hiding her death, Jenkins fought vamps. It just makes me wonder what Eve is gonna do or say when she learns Flynn secret.
