Castle Fraser, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Spook Of The Day #135 • The eternally bloody staircase of Castle Fraser
This next tale reads like a classic murder mystery - but unfortunately, this story was all to real.
Castle Fraser is a hidden haunted gem in Scotland, with a dreary past that the owners still try and hide away.
With winding staircases, hidden trapdoors and a spy hole to keep her entertained, the ghost of Lady Blanche Drummond wanders the castle after her death in 1874.
It is said that she was murdered in the Green Room and her body was dragged down the stairs. Wood paneling had to be put in place to cover the impenetrable stains.
Alongside this female spirit in a long black dress is ghostly whispers, phantom laughter, and the echo of music once played in the Great Hall.

The hand on her face curled around to her chin, lifted her face toward his.
For a long time, she had known it would come to this. Hadn’t she?

Dispatch from Edinburgh 2026 #1--Lots of Castles
It isn’t a trip to Scotland that I don’t spend the first several weeks sick with some kind of bronchial/ sinus issue. I’m not sure if it’s the airplane cabin air or if I am cursed, but I have been sick since arriving. Fortunately, I’m on the mend, but hacking, sneezing, and general achiness does not make one’s health conducive to traipsing around the beautiful spots in this beautiful country. …
