Caskett: The debate: sex scenes v. passion

Looks like Castle Confessions touched a nerve with the picture/post requesting a hot sex scene between Caskett in Season 6. Some folks want to see the nitty gritty, others do not, whereas some are just sick of this subject. Being a newer member of the fanbase, I am thinking about these issues for the first time.

I fall more into the camp of not needing to see the act but wanting to see the passion portrayed between the characters. I'm comfortable with the balance created by the scene in Always, which shows the beginning of their passion but then fades to black and shows them the next day. It was hot without being graphic and far more sexy than if we'd seen them getting busy under the sheets. That set a great tone for the start of their relationship, but season 5 didn't really build on it.

Season 5 had some great moments showing a deep love building between the two. But at times the all consuming passion that often accompanies that type of love was missing in their romantic moments. There was fun flirtation in the precinct at times, and plenty of innuendo, but it sometimes lacked the zip it had in earlier seasons. When they finally got together, it was understandable they were careful in the precinct, but not in the privacy of their homes. Some of their kisses seemed chaste, and their body language was kind of off, which is not what I would expect of Castle once he finally got together with his dream woman. I'm thinking of the Valentine's scene where he is so careful about how he approaches and touches her. It was awkward. After sharing intimate moments for months, it would be more natural for him to simply grab her around the waist, or let his hands slide along her body, like she does to him in the 100th episode. Casual touching is so natural when you've been together for awhile. And passion flaring is also very natural, particularly in the first year of a relationship.

So do I want to see a hot, steamy sex scene? I'd rather see the start of it, but not the actual act. Your imagination is so much sexier than anything that can be portrayed. So I'd much rather see the underlying passion and daily intimacy done in a more believable and natural way. I think Beckett did this well. Castle has some work to do in this area.

Also, for Castle, I'd like to see him take a more active role with initiating the little moments. We've seen him in other sexual situations. He was not shy and he was very open with his sexual banter and teasing both while in bed and out. Look at him in season 1 and 2, he was very forward and confident. So why would that change with Beckett now that they are together? I get that he doesn't want to push her too hard for more, but I just don't see him as being so passive even when he's trying not to scare her off.
