🦊 Schattenburg 🦊 HeavenSky aka Nicolas Sebastian 7/2022 😊 Schattenburg is a castle, museum and restaurant in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg (Austria). Schattenburg is 480 metres (1,570 ft) above sea level. Its name is assumedly derived from the word stem "schatte, schad" meaning "protection, shield". Hugo I. of Montfort, founder of the town of Feldkirch, built the castle around 1200. The various Dukes of Montfort live here until 1390. A baroque castle, Château du Champ-de-Bataille lies between the communes of Neubourg and Sainte-Opportune-du-Bosc, and in the Campagne du Neubourg, between the river Risle to the west and the river Iton to the east. It was built in the 17th century for the Maréchal de Créqui. In 1650 Alexandre de Créquy-Bernieulle (1628–1703) was arrested and exiled to the province by Cardinal Mazarin. He built the Château du Champ-de-Bataille between 1653 and 1665. After the Arrest the Château was the home of the Family "de Merendonque". In the French revolution the Château was stormed and the furniture was sold throughout France. Enjoy the beautiful photography and the interesting story by @sergejk87 . . - According to local legends, the Rock of Cashel originated in the Devil's Bit, a mountain 20 miles (30 km) north of Cashel when St. Patrick banished Satan from a cave, resulting in the Rock's landing in Cashel. Cashel is reputed to be the site of the conversion of the King of Munster by St. Patrick in the 5th century. The Rock of Cashel was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman invasion. In 1101, the King of Munster, Muirchertach Ua Briain, donated his fortress on the Rock to the Church. The picturesque complex has a character of its own and is one of the most remarkable collections of Celtic art and medieval architecture to be found anywhere in Europe.
