Can we just appreciate how casually good the trans representation in fifth season is. Tonkee beeing trans is (in the first book) not really relevant for the book, but it also did not feel like she was just included to show off how open minded the author is (Samantha Shannon did an especial bad job with this in general). Tonkee just exists like all trans people do. It is only special because society makes it special (which the book shows). And the fact how and how late Essun realises that she is trans just feels like a giant FUCK YOU to all the TERFs out there.

Hello tumblr, ‼️I NEED BETA READERS‼️ Specifically a black woman and a Cambodian/Khmer person to check my rep of the mcs.

It’s the first in a YA portal fantasy romance trilogy about two estranged childhood best friends who are called back to the magical world they went to as children despite their rocky relationship. There’s queer rep, adventure, romance, fantasy creatures, the power of friendship, found family, and a unique fantasy world! The blurb is further down if you’re intrigued!

I’ve done my research and have a good idea of what to avoid in terms of rep, but I need someone to check my work! I would also love incorporating any ideas you have to make it more true to life (such as kinship terms, traditions, struggles, or anything else people outside of those cultures wouldn’t know about unless they were explicitly told). It’s casual representations, but I want it to feel realistic and relatable enough that readers with those identities feel represented. I won’t be satisfied with it until people of those identities tell me it works!

You’ll like it if you like Seanan McQuire’s Wayward Children series, In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan, Narnia, or other similar things.

I want Dreamzzz to be more widespread and popular for a multitude of reasons, one of which being all the casual rep I just fucking LOVE. There’s so much diversity in the show and it’s never made a whole thing because people are just people and that’s SUCH a good lesson for the kiddos in the audience.

Examples I can think of:

- Mrs. Castillo, Jasmin, Astrid, and others having various kinds of accents

- Foods of various cultures

- Dental devices like Jayden’s headgear (this one makes me personally extra happy because the mockery of any and all dental gear in media made me so anxious when I got braces as a kid)

- Characters in the kids’ middle school having awkward, crack-y voices (like- yes!! This is a normal thing kids go through in puberty and they shouldn’t be ashamed!!)

- Gender roles being largely disregarded (people are who they are and like what they like. The closest the show gets to weird gender roles is stuff like it being surprising Logan enjoys K-Pop or Dallas knitting, though I’d argue that’s more because both were seen as stereotypical “jocks” until then)

- Characters having different hair types and textures

- Characters like Izzie and Mateo being (implied) bilingual

- Mobility aids like Astrid’s wheelchair (outside of that one comment from Logan which was both a one time thing and swiftly acknowledged as rude)

- Characters having explicit real-world ethnicities

- Various characters, main and side, being explicitly (Logan’s moms) or implicitly (Mateo) LGBTQIA+

- AuDHD symptoms. AuDHD symptoms everywhere.

And that’s all from the top of my head, there’s probably more I’m not thinking of. Overall: this show and theme absolutely delights me with its rep and I cannot wait to see what more its got in store for the future (Lego give me Mateo/Cooper canon and my life is your’s-).

Just watched Nimona. Yeah. I- yeah. I see what everyone’s been talking about. Holy fucking hell. I started crying like, 2/3 of the way through and did not stop crying until past the end. Jesus Christ. That is a fantastic movie oh my god.

Any theories as to why Ridley is in a wheelchair?

I'm not sure, we're never explicitly told the extent of Ridley's condition. I'm guessing some form of paralysis, but I don't really know a lot concerning this. I think it's good that the narrative doesn't focus on her being wheelchair-bound though, because it doesn't distract from who she is. Ridley's a chaotic, brilliant inventor with a penchant for transformation, and her character is not defined by her disability.
