Day 10, With Animal Ears
I know Percy is usually the cat hybrid, and I love him as such, but look. Cats are assholes, they do as they please, come and go when they want. They want love, but they are tsundere, and you can only cuddle with them when they are comfortable. Like Nico. Dogs, on the other hand, are loyal and friendly but can be vicious when provoked. Like Percy.
Nico was cold. He felt like he was laying on an ice-block instead of his bed in the Underworld. It wasn’t a warm place, but it wasn’t this cold either. Usually, two blankets were enough for him for the night, but even his warmest clothes couldn’t chase away the cold. He curled his thin, black tail against his body, and for not the first time in his life, he wished all of his body were covered by fur, not just his tail and ears.
He hissed in discomfort but climbed out of his bed to do what any self-respecting cat or cat hybrid would do: searching for something warm. He wandered around the palace, but nothing was good enough and he didn’t want to go to any god, so he shadow-traveled in a half-sleeping state and prayed that he arrives in a safe, warm place instead of in a hydra nest.
“Mmm”, purred Nico delightedly when he met with a warm, muscled body. He didn’t have to open his eyes to know he found the perfect place: Percy’s arms. The smell of salt and something earthy, the fluffy tail, and the yummy muscles were dead giveaways. The dog hybrid, when he realized that the intruder was only his boyfriend, cuddled him closer, noting his shivering, ice-cold state.
“Hey, kitty”, whispered Percy in Nico’s sensitive ears. The cat demigod gave out a protesting sound – he hated that nickname. He was so much more than just a kitty, but he also knew that his boyfriend didn’t mean to imply anything wrong with it, so he just moved into a more comfortable position.
“Warm”, purred victoriously, snuggled closer, and with that, he immediately fell asleep. Percy smiled and stroked his kitten’s hair. He loved that his boyfriend trusted him enough to find him when he wasn’t feeling well. That instead of trying to cope with his discomfort alone, he visited Percy. It was a clear sign that even if they were cat and dog hybrids, they belonged with each other.
