Dear Catcallers, Including Many Of The Types Of Them
To the ones that actually are just trying to let someone know you think they look good, and aren't expecting sex, or anything. Maybe you're hoping they'll talk to you, but right now they can't because it's impossible to know if you're different from the majority garbage. Let's talk in a few years when hopefully we won't have to worry about weeding you out. I'm sorry that that's the way it is, but keep being you, because maybe one day you'll get a fear free response, but until then, respect that you don't get one.
To the ones that expect an answer, we don't owe you an answer, and I'm not sorry to tell you that. Respect that right.
To the ones that expect appreciation, if you think everyone enjoys someone complimenting them in what is usually an obnoxious way, that in many cases ends in expecting sex or insulting the person you complimented, you've got another thing coming. Not everyone appreciates that, most people don't, learn from that fact, and grow, and respect that.
To the ones that don't stop after they've ignored you once, go away, stop it, leave us alone. Again, I'm not sorry, but you're being a creep, if they aren't interested, respect that.
To the ones who don't understand why people get upset at being catcalled, try having it done to you. Try having gross terms thrown at you, and an expectation to respond with appreciation. Try being afraid to not do just that because if you don't, guess what? You have a huge risk of being hurt, badly. If you still don't get it, that's fine, but respect our feelings.
To the ones who need simpler terms here you go: Please Stop, Please Respect Our Feelings.
To the assholes who still don't fucking get it, including the guy from the CNN debate clip on this issue. I don't care if you don't get it, I don't give a shit if you disagree. I don't give a shit about pleasing you, and no one else does. We need to listen to the beautiful ladies in that same video.
This should not be a debate on whether or not people should like being catcalled or anything like that. The issue needs to be how do we come together and find a way to communicate differently that isn't so aggressive. So fear inducing. So blatantly disrespectful. Can we come to a point where catcalling isn't what it is now? I get that you want to let someone know you think they look good, but there are other ways of doing it outside of yelling at them and even hurting them if they don't appreciate it.
This comes down to respect, which is why each "type" of catcaller was reminded to keep respecting each other as their number one priority.
Let's learn from this, from all sides, and figure out a better way of communicating, because this will never work, and I'm so fucking tired of reading story after story of another person getting hurt or even killed all because they didn't respond to a vulgar form of complimenting someone.
Please, for everyone's sake, let's grow, for once, let's just, fucking, grow.
Someone who wants change, and is hoping this helps
