I stumbled on some of my old art of Kitten Wizard Dave and it made me nostalgic and he's cute.

I was wondering about Dave, now that he's part cat. He supposedly (?) always wanted to be a cat sort of, and I'm wondering how much of that is true? He seems embarrassed and doesn't go out much anymore, and wasn't visibly jazzed about it in the first place. The only comparison I can think of is if someone came up and instantly transitioned me before that was even something that I was sure I wanted. The lack of his consent in it makes me wonder if he would've done it if he had a choice?

so this is a GREAT question that i'm gonna be a little cagey answering for plot reasons.

that said, yeah, it is very much like the "if you could press a button that instantly makes you the opposite gender would you press it" except someone else has the button and they don't ask you if you would press it, they just press it.

dave is a guy who always strikes me as being really stubborn and reticent about changing his ways. june, as a breath player, is obviously quite fluid and adapts to change pretty quick over time. dave as a time player is more locked into this really strict relationship with cause and effect? so he seems like someone who really doesn't like jumping in the deep end, he wants to really understand and be chill with a big change before committing to it.

(i love that i JUST answered a question about how i don't particularly care about classpects, and yet here i am using them to talk about character personalities)

so dave's isolation is this weird mix of dysphoria AND euphoria? because i think it's transparent that yeah on some level he does want to be a cat or cat-like, but because he had no choice in the matter he's had absolutely no time to consider what this means for him or his relationship with karkat. add onto that the frequency with which dave's friends kinda make fun of everyone at times, and i think you've got a guy who really just doesn't want anyone (including himself) to acknowledge that his body has changed, or that his changed body is changing HIM.

i know it's a cliche at this point for me to say "godfeels is very much a story about ______" but godfeels is very much a story about finding and embracing your own embodied identity, and i think there's a lot of potential in dave to explore that from a very different angle than how it was explored with june.

Dave was not happy when Ruby finished absorbing that portal and there was suspicious gold threading on Khyta’s amulet.

I may have used the cat versions here mostly because I realized then I could make Dave’s tail all angry fluff.
