My personal rules for this challenge, please read before commenting!
The order of cats drawn is determined by specifically when their name is first said in the books (ignoring allegiances). This is mostly to make things easier on myself so I can easily search by instances of any specific character's name and determine when their name was first said. (Example; despite Boulder being listed in the allegiances as early as Into the Wild, he is not name-dropped until The Darkest Hour)
I draw cats in multiple stages of their life and this usually looks something like this, kit -> apprentice -> warrior/medicine cat -> leader/elder. In cases where a character goes through an extreme change, additional drawings will be made. (Example: Brightpaw -> Lostface -> Brightheart or Stormkit -> Crookedkit or Littlecloud (warrior) -> Littlecloud (medicine cat apprentice) -> Littlecloud (medicine cat). If you see a character posted who appeared much earlier than I'm citing them, please remember I'm drawing them in stages! No, Brambleclaw's first appearance isn't technically in Midnight, but his prior appearances were as BrambleKIT and BramblePAW. He first appears as BrambleCLAW in Midnight.
I heavily take into account a cat's family when designing them and that leads to an important question, what do I consider canon? What information do I accept, and what do I throw out. To make things easier on myself, any information provided outside the books I ignore. As long as something can be cited in a physical book, then it's canon to me. (Example; Smallear isn't the father of Lionheart and Goldenflower because this information can only be found through the website. Lionheart being Frostfur's mate I do consider canon, despite it being initially presented on the website as well, because it was later confirmed inside the books.) This also leads into what characters I decide to draw. As long as a character's name is explicitly said inside an existing book, they will be drawn. Cases like Ashfur and Ferncloud's littermates, Elderkit and Tulipkit, or Firestar and Princess's mother, Nutmeg, will be ignored since their names only exist outside the books.
Rules for others
You are 100% allowed to use my designs for MAP's, fanart, or whatever else. Just make sure you give credit and feel free to tag/link me, I'd love to see!
If you'd like to follow me along and also draw the cats in order of when they first appear you of course can, I'd love to see the stuff you draw as well! Additionally, you don't at all have to follow the rules that I'm following, if you feel like my personal rules are too restricting feel free to adapt the challenge however you want to! This is all in good fun after all.
Please refrain from asking for a specific character to be drawn, I'll get to everyone as long as they're named in the books, I promise! If you notice I've skipped over a character feel free to send in an ask or a DM letting me know! Just make sure you give me some information about when the character was first named (book title, chapter, page number, and the quote from the book would be great), this way I can double-check and add them to my list!
