So I have some ethical & legal questions if anyone wants to chime in their thoughts/experiences/suggestions.
So I have pretty severe anxiety, as well as depression and a number of other issues. My pets (1 dog, 2 cats) are a significant help to my state of mind, well being, and quality of life. So much so that a few years ago my therapist at the time offered to write me a letter to qualify them as emotional support animals so that I wouldn't have to stress about them being able to live with me. It ended up not being necessary at the time so I (stupidly) turned her down.
Now I'm in a situation where I might be moving to an area where having them as emotional support animals vs regular pets will significantly impact my ability to find housing. We could be moving as soon as next month (it's a move related to my spouse's job) and I do not currently have a therapist (due to an insurance mix up and the crappy state of healthcare in my current location).
No one in this area is taking new patient appointments sooner than 6 months out, most of them closer to a year if they are at all.
So I'm wondering, in this case would it be terrible if I made fake paperwork to get my animals as emotional support animals? What are the chances I'll be caught? What are the possible legal repercussions if I do get caught?
Are there any alternatives I've not thought of?
