It's time for Poop Watch 2025!

In Poop Watch 2024, we saw my cat dealing with the aftermath of getting neutered! It took over a day for him to finally poop after coming home from his surgery.

This year Poop Watch is happening after his dental procedure! He went in for teeth cleaning and left minus 6 teeth. As such he's hopped up on the zorbium once more! It's been almost 24hr since his surgery and he thankfully peed overnight. No poop has made an appearance. I feel like he really wants to since he keeps entering the litter box, but he either just scratches around, loafs, or just leaves. He's also been keeping his tail down and sometimes even tucked between his legs. I don't believe it's injured since he will raise it and flicks it around when he's looking for love, attention, and reassurance.

The tricky aspect of this situation is that yesterday morning he was not able to make his morning poop before he had to be taken to the vet. A fact I didn't realize before I took him in, otherwise maybe the clinic could have done or suggested something. As such we are actually at the 48hr mark of no poop. That is not great and the addition of what all happened with his surgery is making me fear we might have an issue on our hands.

He is currently on a wet food only diet for the time being so I've been adding some extra water to help with hydration and such. In his latest meal, I also added a bit of pumpkin puree in hopes of encouraging a big poop.

I am considering ordering some miralax since that's recommended to help in very tiny doses. Otherwise we may be calling the vet tomorrow.

Despite overfeeding him, making sure he had Human sit with him so no one else would take his food, and having the pet sitters feed him, Delano has not gained back weight in almost 3 weeks. Delano’s concaving body (bottom left; tough to see but visible) lost weight but now has the telltale firm belly-bump common with internal pests (worms) so we no longer believe it was a short-term weight loss from being stuck in a shed. Pests aren’t uncommon in ferals, but since it was Delano who fought with Young Guy it is possible that stress weakened his immune system enough to let the pests really take root.

Since his thinning has only continued we spoke with a vet and now believe that he likely has a parasite. We used $10 of the feral fund to get a dose of selamectin (bottom right) which should set him right! We’ll post an update once we notice a weight gain/change 😸
