As a writer, how much do notes affect your motivation? And what quantifiers do you consider a release successful?
Notes do help motivate me! But it’s not the main thing. For me what really matters are the comments I get and that I’m having fun!
One big example for me is my Gahyeon fic. To be honest, I was pretty bummed out to see it didn’t get as much traction as my other works. I was thinking if it was because I was a new writer, or it was 10k words, or the topic was meh etc.
So it was a bit discouraging, especially because I want to show that in every new fic I do , I’m growing and learning as a writer.
That was until I got so many comments about how well I built that world, the characters, and fight scene, the story. I was really humbled. I realized I was focusing on the wrong things. Writing is a hobby after all, it’s supposed to be fun! I consider Undying to be one of my best works ever. It even got onto some of the other writers' top works, which made me so happy.
So now, the main quantifier for me is that when someone reads over my work, they tell me what I’ve improved on and how I can improve on. A fic that hits triple digits is already great for me!
And that is my Ted talk thank you
