Top Ten Favorite Books of All Time.
My last post made me think about my favorite books. For someone who reads as much as I do, it is hard to point favorites. So, when I think of favorite books, I think of books that I can read multiple times and not get bored. Books that have changed my life.
1. The Bible by the Awesome God
Self-explanatory. Written by my favorite author. I love history--and this book is probably the best history book ever penned.
2. Harry Potter The Series by J.K. Rowling
I wouldn't be the reader I am today without this series. I have never been the same since picking up the first book. Instead, I turned into the biggest bookworm my school has ever had. I reread Harry Potter every summer (at the least). I watch the movies when I'm feeling depressed. My entire room is Harry Potter themed. I love this series more than food and sleep combined.
3. The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
I couldn't believe this series when it came out. I mean, a world with so much death? But this series (and this genre) is addicting. It's addicting because it stays with you. You think about what is ahead in the future and what the world will come too. And your imagination comes in. This is always the first book I recommend to someone who wants a book, because I have never met a person who disliked it.
4. The Pillars of Earth by Ken Follett
The first chapter of this book is split into four parts with four different point of views. I remember finishing one part, looking up at Abby (http://goingtopieces.tumblr.com/), and trying to explain what was going on. I was so in awe by the complexity of this novel that I read it in a week. I'm a sucker for a huge book. And this 1000 page one made my head spin--in a good way. It's a historical fiction set in a time period I have never researched about (12th century), set in a country that is the number one place I want to visit (England) and filled with so many characters that I just fell in love with. I could sing this books' praises all day. Time to move on.
5. Catalyst by Laurie Halse Anderson
Anderson is one of my favorite authors. She writes real world--rape, eating disorders and the like. This one is about a perfectionist who doesn't get into her top school. Story of my life--at least the perfectionist part. Since I related to this book so much, it has made the top ten list.
6. Divergent by Veronica Roth
Okay. Imagine The Hunger Games suspense. Then throw in The Giver's character who can see different things. Now add the separation you see in every Dystopic fiction. Now imagine riding trains, fighting people, facing fears, protecting the ones you love, finding your soul mate, beating the system, and looking good doing it. And that's Divergent.
I think I bought this book a week or two after published date. I have read it at least every three months since then. I love this book, and the best thing about it is that it is a series! With the next one coming out in May! YAY!
7. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas
The only classic to make the list. It's a big read as well (oh yum) but my favorite thing is the astuteness you find in this novel. This man plots revenge for close to twenty years and in the end gets everything he wants. I don't know--it makes me happy.
8. Wicked by Gregory Maguire
This book is so wonderfully written. Absolutely beautiful really. It kind of reminds me of something you would find on fan fiction, the story of the Wicked Witch. This novel really brings in your imagination and Maguire's; I mean, haven't you thought about the back story of the bad guy? Think of Snape or even The Count from The Series of Unfortunate Events. These bad guys were misunderstood. So, of course, Wicked is a great read. The musical is legit!
9. The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory
As much as I love The Other Boleyn Girl, this novel is the one from Gregory I enjoy the most. I'm a weird history nerd that favors one time period over the others--and that's the Tudor monarchy. Yup, I know, weird. Gregory always writes good history, meaning the facts are all there, but she imagines the characters' thoughts. I love this novel because it is written from the POV of someone that is away from the royal family, a jester/seer who views the monarchy from outside eyes.
10. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
It has actually been awhile since I read this. But it really stuck with me. Two stories in one: A dying author's last tale and a young biographer's coming out story. I used to suggest this book to everybody, but then no one liked it....so I suggest The Hunger Games instead:]
And those are the top 10. The books I can read over and over and never get bored. Don't get me wrong, I could probably make a top 100 favorite books, but these books stick with me.
Have a great week and keep reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:]
