As we know, urbanization and industrialization have threatened numerous species due to habitat loss. But, there are some species that have adapted to survive and thrive in cities - including crows!

Crows are omnivores and scavengers by nature, which means they’ve learned to utilize many human food sources, from dumpsters and bird feeders to roadkill. They’ve also adapted their nesting habits to use artificial nesting sites and materials. The extra shelter in cities helps keep the birds and their offspring safe from predators. It’s a crow’s world out there!

It’s no secret that Sam has been leaning into, well, the darker side of things lately. It’s… something he’s always toed the line on. The Midnight Man, all the 3am rituals…

He’s… not like Colby. Didn’t grow up with a Bible in hand, didn’t grow up going to church or praying. Didn’t grow up with a false sense of light in his sights. He had to make his own light, his own reason. And, well, the locked box that was in his childhood bedroom all these years was there for a reason.

The darkness was always with him.

Sometimes he thinks the reason he hasn’t crossed that line all the way is because of the sun shining by his side. With a big grin and deep blue eyes. The very same one he keeps hurting, the very same one he causes to dim with his own darkness.

It’s blinding sometimes, so true and sure and honest. And it’s a reason to stay away from the line, to not give into the curiosity his darkness bleeds into his thoughts. All those what ifs…

One night, a few years into their career, hours after an argument because the two of them hadn't figured out how to balance their channel and their friendship yet—Sam remembered thinking that Colby must have been an angel. He had to be, for putting up with him, for continuing to shine so brightly no matter what.

And he knows Colby has his own darkness, but unlike Sam it’s not his natural state. His light always fights with darkness.

With Sam fighting to keep his own light.

But with Colby by his side, it’s much easier. All he has to do is look by his side, and he remembers why the light is something precious, something to keep, something to not cloud with darkness.

So of course he hates sunsets.

Listing one good thing everyday for 2026:

Day 40: Best friend/wife-who-lives-abroad's birthday! I miss you so much!

Day 41: Best friend/platonic girlfriend/my boytoy's birthday! (Yes, I seem to enjoy being friends with aquarius'es and yes they are almost bday-twins!) And I went to a concert with my daughter and her friend!

Day 42: Cozy evening with my kids, even if it was "just" a wednseday.

Day 43: Chatting with that lovely old woman who is the auditor for our local tenants' association. I just love humans.

Day 44: I kicked ass at that meeting!

Day 45: Such a good Saturday. Zero nagging, loads of chocolate. And also @dallirious aweseome Standish/Lamb-fic.

Day 46: Sundays with the kids are just plain awesome right now. We chill, we relax, we talk.
