oh my god it's actually so much more bearable to see peter on screen when he isn't being an absolute asshole for no good reason, like jfc that's why i've always hated the sight of him regardless of the context, even at his very best when he teamed up with venom he always made snide assholish remarks at both eddie and even worse at the symbiote, but now he's actually treating eddie AND the symbiote with some real respect and care without shitting on them??? it’s genuinely just so nice to see

So the latest issue of the cates run seems to hint at something that might have explained this whole mess? Of course that doesn’t matter now since cates had to cut the run short due to issues with his home life,

Basically it seems Titan was placed in Brice’s mind by D’spayre, and that the seed that grew into Titan was given to him through a green door by what looked like the leader but with a baby body?

Now that will probably never got followed up on so I guess it doesn’t really matter, but it seems like cates WAS eventually going to use some things from immortal hulk again? Which makes it all the more strange that he would undo all of the character development and just erase joe fixit with zero explanation, was that something editorial pushed so people wouldn’t get confused with the joe fixit miniseries? Who fucking knows. At least this mess is finally at an end

Yeah I just finished reading it.

It's definitely ... something. It looks like Ryan Ottley kinda took over these last few issues so I wonder how much of this was part of Cate's original idea or what. This issue definitely felt like it was hailing back to Immortal Hulk, what with the Green Door and the way Hulk and Bruce burst out of Titan - that transformation looked a lot like the grotesque twisty ones in Immortal Hulk.

I'm glad it ends with peace for Bruce, that he has a bed and people watching out for him. It feels a little overly simple to just say "we told everyone what happened and everyone knows your safe and none if it is your fault." Like, we didn't get to see the resolution we are just told there was one. But, regardless, I'm glad we're putting Bruce in a place where the rest of the Marvel heroes aren't going to be attacking him.

In terms of consistency and characterization, this run was still a huge mess. I'm glad it's over. But I am not as furious about it's existence anymore. I'm glad they cleared up that Titan is a foreign entity that was placed inside Bruce, and not a part of his DID System. I just hope the next Hulk series is better.

Okay so I had to take a bit of a break from this run, but so far I don't really like the Cates run.

Some things are interesting, I like other things, absolutely hate some things.

Keep in mind I'm about to go into #17, so I haven't gone through it all and sentiments may still change or develop.

But the gist of it:

What I like, I like that they did try something new. I actually found the new lore on the symbiotes fascinating. I liked the knull and the klyntar lore and grendell the dragon. I thought that was at least interesting and new.

I like how they at least try to introduce new lore, some of it is done shitty or downright unnescessary but at least they tried to do something new.

I don't mind Dylan Brock, I kinda like the kid so far, he seems sweet. I think it's stupid how they retroactively made Anne his mother and the whole child abuse arc just pisses me off because it's so unnessary and forced and urgh!

Yeah that triggered my ptsd and I may have gone a bit too angry on that one.

I also don't necessarily mind the dark stuff but what I absolutely didn't like aside from the whole child abuse arc is how Toxic the relationship between Eddie and Venom feels in this run. It's still based in a romantic relationship but instead of troubled like the costa run and the older runs this feels downright malicious and toxic and like an addiction and that just doesn't feel right to me. To me that's not Symbrock. And that's something that just really really bothers me.

Because while Symbrock has always had bumps and disagreements and this troubled dynamic of can't live with you, can't live without you it's never been downright manipulative or malicious. Until this run.

And honestly, that actually breaks my heart. It hurts to read this run. Which is why I have to take a break.

But yeah those are my thoughts on the Cates run so far.

So the Carnage symbiote. Is her name actually Red now? Did someone tell Cates to return her pronouns?

I have not read the comics in a while but in their first appearance if I remember correctly Cletus gave the Carnage symbiote the nickname Red. It has stuck ever since even if it isn't often used in the comics.

As for the pronouns.... eehhhh see the problem with the Cates run is he killed Red early on, gave Cletus the Grendel symbiote, started calling THAT combination Carnage (even though it isn't), killed that symbiote, had it come back for the island arc where it still was referred to as the Carnage symbiote incorrectly, and things only got more confusing from there.

Especially because the Grendel symbiote used male pronouns while Red uses female. And a lot of what Cates wrote he decided to just kinda quietly drop. Like the whole r*pe thing, the memory edits, etc. He kinda would make plot lines and then drop them.

Also from what I remember he isn't writing Venom anymore so this new writer might have just decided that keeping track of all of... that, was too difficult or annoying and just said "oh no Red never died this is Red, always has been."

Comics are complex and annoying
