Day One
I’m finally, getting away from the old stuff that has been bugging me. This year, I have decided I want to challenge myself, and also make 2014 the year of “TRANSFORMATION.”
Some days are better than others. Some days, are ground breaking and just freaking awesome. But then there are other days. When my alarm doesn’t go off, I’m broke and running extremely late. Those are the painfully difficult, fall-asleep-and-never-wake-up days.
I’ve realised that sometimes you have to be your own hero. And, understand that my life is bigger than my current circumstances. It is okay to feel uncomfortable, lost, BIGGER than your surrondings and unsatisfied occasionally, but there’s a reason behind that feeling. The type of discomfort, that is leading you to GREATNESS.
During an inspiring conversation with Khutso Theledi, she told me something very profound. I’ll need to be a superhuman. In, order to live my life, to the best of my abilities. No one is, forced to believe in my capabilities, nor be nice to me – It’s my life and my dreams. No matter what is happening around me, I need to realise my worth and stand my ground.
There’s always going to be things, happening around you. Distracting you, from reaching your goals but you need to put your foot down, and work towards it. I started today, deciding the year I would like to have, and what I’ll have to change in order, to make my year better than expected.
I asked, well known heroes, what they want out of the year and this is what they had to say( I hope it also inspires you) :
“I’d like to have a blissful 2014 where I make sure each day is filled with purpose and balance” – Kahn Morbee
“My word for 2014 is “Successful”. I have had a huge problem with friends who drink way too much and always put pressure on me to do what they do ALL the time. I have been distancing myself from some of them, though it hasn't been easy because they have been in my life for a very long time. I keep pushing myself to stay on budget and get things done, this is my year and I want it to end with me pointing at the long list of things I had planned to do with ticks next to them. “Believe in yourself, you will be amazed at how well you will perform"” – Sandy Nene
“Albert Einstein once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” I want to have a “successful” year where I’m uncompromising, taking on any new projects (big or small) and enjoying what I do” – Ignus Storm
“ I want to have a “PIONEERING” 2014 where I keep on challenging the status quo; finding new ways to create more value to develop the digital industry in SA / globally. I love speaking at conferences and will continue to strive to spread my outspoken opinion. Life is short. Play naked!” – Mike Sharman
“"What's done cannot be undone." I would like to have a BLESSED year with a positive outlook on everything, every day, patience, tolerance, love and getting along with everyone and everything and putting a smile out there even when its pouring.” – Zola Hashatsi
“I’d like to have an ELECTRIC 2014 where I’m constantly keeping an open mind as to what might happen in my life. Allowing things to happen and not be afraid to embrace change. I also need to learn to let go a bit and not be so controlling. “I have everything I need already” – I read it on a blog once and realized that we constantly want more material stuff in our lives. Stuff that doesn’t actually mean anything and is actually unnecessary. And in that moment it was clear that I already have everything I need in my life, family, love, friends and surrounding myself with positivity and non-materialistic things. I want to enjoy this year and what it has to offer. ” – Catherine Grenfell
“Steve Martin once said, “Be so good they can’t ignore you”. I would like to have an “IMPOSSIBLE turned POSSIBLE 2014. Well the ambition is there, the vision is there already, I really believe anything is possible if you work hard and never give up. I guess I would have to strengthen my ability to complete the tasks I start. ” – Zareef Minty
“I want to have an “”Incredible” year. I'd need to be super-disciplined. Though I already am focused and disciplined as it stands, I need to make sure that the distractions in the music industry don't derail me from my path. It's very easy to get caught up in all the fluff and lose out on what really matters. Trust God, He knows what He's doing.” – Bongi Mvuyana
Challenge :
1) Using one word, describe the year you would like to have?
2) What new habits would you have to introduce in your life in order to make sure that your year does turn out that way?
