Word of The Day

Description: Grace teaches Rocky what tickling is and it epically backfires on him.

Part one based off my poll. I’ll be posting the other prompt soon!

While bored on the trip back to Erid, Grace proposed a new game they can play. Grace found a small pocket dictionary in the lab and wanted to use it to broaden Rocky’s vocabulary. Around a quarter way through their trip they started doing a word of the day. Grace would teach Rocky the word and the definition then it was Rocky’s task to try and implement the word into their speech that day somehow.

The little game was very effective and educational as Rocky was incredibly adaptable and he began using much bigger words on the daily after Ryland taught them.

This morning was no different than any other day

Grace grabbed the book off the table and came to sit by Rocky.

“Alright bud let me know when.”

Grace held the book in his hand and flipped through it.

“Now.” Rocky said

Grace stopped flipping through and landed on a random page.

“Okay.”

Then he waved his finger around the page.

“Now.” Rocky said

Graces finger stopped on a random word. Grace looked at the word and paused.

“Chole- ch choledo-“

“Hmmm”

Rocky waited patiently.

“Huh?”

“Does Grace not know how to say new word. Question?”

“Nono I got it.”

Grace attempted the word again.

“Chole-doch-o…

“Grace does not know how to pronounce.

“no Rocky, I know how to pronounce it!”

“Grace look away when he lies. Statement”

Grace sighed before he gave up and looked at how to pronounce it phonetically.

“cho· led· o· cho· li· thi· a· sis”

“It’s a noun and it’s when a gallstone is trapped in the bile duct after being formed in the gallbladder.”

Rocky sat in silence before saying,

“Well how am I supposed to use new word casually. Question?”

Grace laughed “I’m not sure. If you want we can pick a new word.”

“Yes.” Rocky replied

Grace began flipping through the book again.

“Now.”

“Okay”

He traced his finger along the page again.

“Now.”

Graces eyes widened when he read the new word of the day

……

“Grace can’t pronounce this word either. Question?”

Grace snapped out of it.

“The word is Tickle”

He began to read the description

“Verb: to lightly touch,stroke or poke sensitive areas of the body in a way which causes involuntary laughter, twitching or spasmodic movements.”

Rocky listened carefully to the definition but didn’t fully understand.

He knew what the other words in the definition meant but context clues were not helping him understand much.

“Rocky confused.”

“Uh well it’s a human thing.”

“Touching makes humans laugh. Question?”

“Yeah but usually not every touch is a tickley touch yknow? A fist bump doesn’t tickle, see?”

Grace fist bumped Rocky through the suit.

“What kind of touch tickles humans. Question?”

“Like soft touch in certain sensitive places could tickle.”

“Involuntary laughter due to a soft touch seems like a human design flaw. Is Grace going to laugh if I poke and lightly touch him. Question.”

Grace thought for a split second. He knew he was ticklish as a kid but once he stopped getting tickled he assumed he could have grown out of something like that. In addition to that it’s not like it came up very often so he hadn’t actually thought about his ticklishness. Being an astrophysicist and all it’s not like his colleagues really wanted to tickle him, a grown man. Not to mention his lack of friends and family.

“Well Rocky, I’m sure I’ve grown out of it. A lot of times when you get older you become more tolerant.”

*Poke*

“Gah!” Grace jumped.

“It works!” Rocky exclaimed

*poke*

“ah! Rocky stop it.”

“Can Rocky tickle Grace. Question?”

Rocky asked while inching close to Grace who was scooting away slowly.

“No-NO Rocky tickling is not for dignified scientists like me it’s for small children and- and- BABIES!! Rocky cuhhut iiittt outtt!”

Rocky giggled to himself and shot one last poke at graces side before he stepped away ready to pay attention again.

“Ahuha- ahem.. okay. Other tenses.”

Grace flipped open the book again.

“Other variants include-

Tickling: the act of tickling someone.

Ticklish: someone who is affected by tickling.

Tickled: used as the past tense or used in praises like “tickled pink” or “tickled my fancy”

“Understand Rocky?”

“Phrases confusing.”

“They just mean you’re pleased with something or enjoy it.

“Well that has tickled my fancy.” Grace stated in a posh accent as an example.

“Humans enjoy tickling. Question?”

“Uhm well everyone is different. A lot of people hate it but I suppose it could be sorta fun. For like young kids I mean. Not me..”

“Grace contradict himself. Statement.”

Grace smiled at the big word Rocky used. Remembering the word of the day from a few weeks ago.

“Nice word bud. How so?”

Grace say tickling not for him. Tickling for young kids. But Grace is a young kid. Grace hardly 40. Not yet reached adulthood.

Grace realized his grown age on earth is a measly pebble on Erid.

“Bud I think we have been over this. But time and age is very different on earth. I’m probably halfway through my lifespan already. Definitely not a child. On earth a child is like 10 years old.”

“Grace so bad at math.”

Rocky crawled close to Grace and wiggles his little appendages in graces direction.

The sheer sight of it made Grace blush and struggle to stifle the giggles in the back of his throat.

Rocky froze a moment.

“Rocky is going to tickle Grace now. Statement.”

“NooHaoho no you’re nohahahaut!”

Rocky wiggles his arms in circles toward some grace.

“Stop it- AHNO!”

Rocky pounced onto Grace and began poking and prodding him again.-

“ROHOCKKYY hehahHA!”

Rocky evolved from poking and moving his arms in circles to squiggling his claws open and closed.

Rocky lets out some coos after seeing graces adorable expressions.

“Cute cute cute.”

“NoNO no not cute!”

“If Grace could see himself he would say cute.”

Grace let blush run through his face and squeezed his eyes shut. Trying to stop himself from accidentally kicking Rocky.

Rocky tried exploring and moving his claws up graces torso to above his ribs.

A sudden burst of laughter erupted from his mouth.

Rocky froze and looked towards graces face.

Then slowly resumed in graces armpits.

Scribbling in circles varied in pressure

Graces realized even after all these years he was still ticklish. He was reminded of his parents who would tickle him as a little boy. He was flailing and thrashing around trying to escape Rocky’s grip but simultaneously he was comfortable relaxed and feeling right at home.

“Hihihihhah! Rohockyy noo.”

“Grace smile. Statement. Grace enjoy question?”

“nooohOhoHO!”

“Grace look away when he lie. Statement.”

“It’s a panic response of the body. It’s not because I like it or I’m having fun it’s just SCIENCE! HAHha!”

Rocky slowed down.

“So Grace not having fun. Question?”

Suddenly Grace felt a wave of sadness as his companion seemed to lose all the joyous energy.

“Ah no rock I’m ha-having fun. I swear I am!”

“Rocky only having fun if Grace having fun too.”

“I am I am this is fun!”

“Okay”

…

“GAHAhah! Nohono okay! Anywhere but there! I can’t HAH!”

Rocky giggled at graces human sounds.

As Rocky slowed down Grace took deep breaths and grabbed at his torso to soothe the lingering ticklish feeling.

“Rocky tickle Grace. Statement”

….

“Rocky done tickling Grace. statement”

“Perfect sentences rock.”

“Grace extremely ticklish. Statement”

“Yeah ok you have learnt enough today.

Description: Rocky discovers Grace is susceptible to a form of Eridian tickling.

“Rock get offa me!” Grace laughed.

Ever since Rocky had upgraded his suit to be more form fitting and flexible Rocky seemed to want to be as close to Grace as he could. And for a while the touch starved astro(not) enjoyed feeling much closer to his friend who’s he’ll never be able to touch.

However the satisfaction wore off when Grace remembered he loved his personal space too.

“Rocky just want to feel close. New suit make so much easier!”

“Yes I know and I love your new suit it’s awesome. But on earth humans sit side by side not constantly connected in a hug okay?”

Grace already had this conversation with Rocky a few days ago but Rocky is so used to clinging to Adrian it hadn’t occurred to them that the only reason he hadn’t been doing it before was because of the wall and ball.

“Okay Rocky leave Grace alone.” Rocky put on fake sad walk into the other room.

Grace fell for his bait immediately.

“Awww ☹️Rocky no that’s not- I didn’t mean it like that.”

Grace followed Rocky through the hall. The Eridian still playing up its slow sad walk to trick Grace.

“I didn’t mean go away I just-

Rocky turned around slowly.

“Oh my god Rocky. For someone with no face that is the most effective puppy dog eyes I’ve ever seen.

“Come here Rocky I know things are different on your planet and you have your customs. So I should be accommodating and accepting of your ..things.”

Rocky walked over with more pep in his step.

Grace successfully tricked.

They walked back to where they were sitting on the ground and Grace let Rocky assume the position they were in before.

Grace sitting crisscrossed on the floor with laptop in from of him and Rocky sitting behind him hugging his torso. 2 of his limbs wrapped around Graces body and his body pushed up against graces back.

“Rocky comfortable. Is Grace. Question.”

Grace was snug as a bug in a fucking rug but he would never say that out loud.

“Sure”

Grace did some adjustments and additions to Rocky’s translation software and while he was working he opened Spotify on a separate tab.

He had been working on a playlist and while he clicked away at his computer he whistled along to the songs.

To Rocky this might as well been the cutest thing he’s ever seen.

You see the children on Erid have such high pitch voices before they are fully mature. And it sounds an awful lot like Graces whistles and it’s reminding him of the small pebbles on earth. Their small little fragile limbs and smooth bodies. Pebbles will usually hatch smooth and softer before maturing to their rigid edges and hard surfaces.

Grace reminds Rocky so much of a small baby right now.

“Zaahg! Whahahttt was that!?”

Grace felt like his whole body just shook.

Rocky accidentally released a bout of quick vibrations from all his limbs without realizing.

Cuteness aggression is real.

“What is the matter. Question?”

“You like zapped me.” Grace said suddenly sitting upright.

“No.”

“Yeah you did. That was weird I didn’t know you could do that. And what noise was that?”

Rocky made a strange clicking noise while he vibrated which made Grace even more confused.

Rocky suddenly realized what he had done. Common practice on Erid. A way of showing affection towards younger Eridians. Usually the pebbles. Their soft smooth shell closely resembling Graces smooth squishy skin.

…. Rocky sat in silence. Then did it again.

“Ahh! Rocky! Whahahhat are youhou dohohing! That feels fuhuny!”

“How can you feel this. Question? You do not have echolocation.”

“AhhahHAHEh! Rocky it tickles!

Rocky remembered the word instantly.

“Aha! New vocab word!”

“Yes! That one. You’re doing it again!”

Rocky giggled and loosened the grip on Grace. Only to readjust his technique of course. He crawled to the side of Grace and continued his torment. Focusing all his limbs to skritch and wriggle on his sides.

“Ohoohoah! HAhah! Rockkk! I should’ve never taughhaht you this” grace complained.

“Why not. Question? So much fun!”

Rocky said as pleased to discover the tickling on Erid was something that could work on humans. Rocky remembered tickling Grace a few days ago when he taught him the word but hadn’t pieced together how it was similar to a common practice on Erid.

Rocky lunged into Grace knocking him onto his back.

He crawled ontop of him and latched his limbs around graces body.

Then began vibrating again.

“Click click click”

“ooHhahho rock and his feels Sohoho weird!”

“ Fun! Humans can experience ~**🎶🎶🎶**”

“GuaHAAHAhahs”

Grace could not control his laughter and his voice was reaching extremely high notes. Again resembling closely a young pebble.

“Graces skin squishy. Just like young Eridian back home. Squish squish squish.”

Grace lay on the ground covered by Rocky’s heavy body. He squirmed and kicked below Rocky’s weight.

“Cmon! Iihihih canahntt!”

“Very interesting. Grace feel the effects of Eridian practices.”

Rocky slowed down and let Grace catch his breath. Grace layering the ground taking deep breaths. Rocky went up and down as Grace inhaled and exhaled.

“Fun. Question?”

“Yeah”

IRL TICKLE STORY

this is like out of a straight up tumblr tickle fic my goodness

So there’s these 3 boys in my English class and they are all like for context very much in like popular crowd. There all conveniently attractive and athletic. Which may lead you to believe there all terrible people. But no they are all like the sweetest things and all 3 of them volunteer for our school’s special needs sports teams. Idk thought it might be worth mentioning there all great people and extremely likable.

So I’m in class I’ve low got a mini crush on one of them. So I’m watching him out the corner of my eye. And one of the other boys who’s sitting next to me and behind him like reaches over the desk and pokes him in the side. He jumps a little and looks behind him smiling.

Couple minutes later he does it again and after a few more times our teacher noticed and through a smile he said.

“Aye quit poking him will ya I’ve got things to teach.”

He agreed to stop but kept doing it secretly.

Then we moved into doing group work they all were working together and my friend brought her chair up to my desk so all 3 of them are still like right there and I’m eavesdropping and I hear

“ _____ your so ticklish”

“No I’m not”

“Yes you are”

And he reaches over and grabs both his sides and starts squeezing and tickling him.

The kid squealed like crazy

He scooted his chair backwards and slipped out of his grip

“ yoohohoo quit that.”

“I can’t believe that noise you made.”

“Shut up I’m not ticklish”

Then the other kid reached his hand over and wiggled his finger in his armpit

“Yeah you are”

By now there all laughing and it’s caught the attention of a few kids and our teacher.

“Hey boys you all better focus up and finish your packet before 1:15.”

“I’m trying Mr. But I’m getting distracted.”

The other 2 were trying to like put the blame on him. And our teacher just let it go

Then the rest of the group work time they got caught up in a conversation about something else and didn’t finish all of the packet in time so the teacher kinda confronted them. (Our teacher is actually pretty chill and friendly with everyone)

“So your guys were just yapping the whole time huh?”

“It’s all ____’s fault he was the one who wouldn’t stop talking. He just wanted to blabber about his new car the whole time.

“Ah so he was the distraction.”

“Yes all because of him.”

“Yeah sure Im the only one at fault.”

“Exactly you should be punished.”

Then I kid you not our teacher SUGGESTED to tickle him.

I’m not 100% sure how it came about probably bc I was shell shocked. but the 2 other boys were immediately took action and helped him down to tickle him.

One of them held his arms and kinda positioned him so he was sitting on the chair and totally leaned back. While the other kid scribbled his stomach and squeezed his sides.

The kid yelped and giggled repeatedly. And he was yelling like

“NononononoNO! Ahhhahheheh!”

Our teacher told the boys enough after a few seconds but the boy said

“He hasn’t even told me to stop yet.”

I just about died.

Shortly after he said that tho the kid said

“GAHha okay heheeehe okkkay okay OKAY STOP!”

And they slowed it down.

It was really sweet like afterwards he had to catch his breath and the guy who was holding him down was rubbing his back and picked up all his stuff for him that fell off the desk during the chaos.

This was unreal and mind you I was sitting right there watching.

And I totally have a crush on this guy😗 if not even more after this because he’s so freaking cute when he’s laughing

Simon had little to no fond childhood memories. Grace knew this but he was just now understanding the gravity of it all.

Simon had hardly any happy memories and Grace somehow felt guilty whenever he shared some fun story from his youth.

Made him feel like he was robbing Simon of that experience.

Simon sat on the ground below Grace who was sitting on the bench

Graces hands affectionately playing with his hair. Making small braids and twisting strands into spirals while he told one of his favorite stories.

“I think I must have gone 5 miles on that little bike. I’m surprised the tires held up for the ride home.”Grace laughed.

Simon laughed. a short laugh but a real one

Grace looked down at Simon below him. He peered over at the man sitting cross cross Apple sauce.

cute.. he thought.

Little things like this that reminded him they were both human. No matter how different they were and how far away they began.

Simon was still just a regular guy. Deserving of happiness and joy.

That’s why it pained Ryland so much that Simon was deprived of most childhood whimsy.

Simon turned to look up at Grace.

“No way that happened.” He said with a huge grin.

“Grace saw the childlike wonder in his eyes and felt like crying.

The only stories Simon had to share were horrible. He tried to make light of them but they never seemed to brighten the room.

“Yes it did. I felt like the king of the world.”

Grace sighed into his smile. Looked down at Simon who was facing front again. Still cross crossed.

Simon slumped down to rest his face on his hands.

Grace looked down. Seeing Simon’s back suddenly pushed more memories into him. Reminding him of summer camp in elementary school.

Grace moved his hands from Simon hair down to his upper back.

He began to trace circles around Simon’s shoulder blades.

“Circle circle, dot dot, X marks the spot.”

Grace punctuated each word with a trace of his finger or a poke to Simon’s back.

“Ah- hey what ya doing?”

Grace laughed.

“It’s a fun little game we used to play at my summer camp.”

“What?”

“It’s called the chillsies.”

“A game?”

“Yea! Can I show you?”

“Uhm sure.”

Simon relaxed his tensed muscles and assumed his previous position.

“Okay. Circle… circle… dot ..dot.. “

Simon flinched at the pokes he received.

“X marks the spot.”

Grace traced his finger from the top of Simon’s back down to his side by his waist. Then again in the opposite direction in order to draw an X shape.”

Simon’s spine stretched and straightened out.

“Geez you’re ticklish huh?”

“I guess.”

“Well hang on I’m not done.”

“Crack an egg on your head let the yolk drip down.”

Simon flinched as Grace mimicked egg dripping down him with his fingers. Dragging his fingertips from his head down to his lower back.

“Criss Cross applesauce”

A swirly circle drawn on Simon’s back.

“Cool breeze”

Grace blew a breath of air in the crook of Simon’s neck and up towards his ear.

Simon flinched

“Tight squeeze.”

Grace pinched Simon’s waist twice.

“Agh!-“

“Now you’ve got the chillsies!”

Grace shamelessly scribbled his fingers all across Simon’s back and sides.

“Awhhaahah cmohonnn!”

Simon let out heart chuckles and adorable giggles while Grace tickled him.

“HAH! PFFTT-“

He pried at Graces wiggling hands and attempted to push Grace off of him.

When that didn’t work he slumped down into the floor and rolled away from graces reach.

“Iheheheh ahhah.” Simon giggled clutching his core.

A giant smile stuck on graces face.

“Wow Si I’ve never heard that laugh from you.

“What kind of sick joke is that!?”

Simon questioned through his giggles

“We did that all the time when I was a kid.”

“Really?”

“Yeah! There’s tons more I can show you!”

“Oh no I’m not doing any more of that.”

“No Si not all of them are gonna tickle.”

Grace laughed

“Look here’s another I can teach you.”

Grace taught Simon tons of games from his childhood. Rhymes, handshakes, tricks,

Mrs Mary Mack, patty cake, Avocado,

They got into playing concentration

(If you don’t know it’s basically naming stuff in a category without messing up)

“Okay one more round.”

“Simon I’ve won the past three.”

“I’ve gotta win at least once.”

Simon looked down determined to win letting his competitive side show.

They resumed the game and Grace mayyyyy have purposely messed up to help Simon out.

“Yeah! I win haha you lose.”

Simon playfully shoved Grace. The playful shove however sent Grace tumbling off the bench they had been sitting on.

Simon peered over the edge to look at Grace lying on the ground.

“Pfffttt imm so sohohorrry.”

“Yeah you don’t look sorry.”

“I am I am I swear.”

Grace couldn’t be mad. Simon was smiling more today than he had ever seen. He didn’t want to ruin this mood.

Simon reached a hand out as an offer to help pull him up.

Grace had a better idea.

Grabbing the outstretched hand he pulled and hard as he could sending Simon plummeting down to the ground beside him.

“OUUUGF!”

Simon slammed into the carpet face first.

“Gahhh.”

Grace cackled at the success of his trick.

“Oh I hate you.” Simon mumbled

“No you don’t hate me.”

“I sure do.”

“Nope you don’t.”

Simon pulled himself upright and looked down a beat at Grace.

“Yes I do.”

“You dont really hate me I’ll prove it.”

Grace announced

Grace situated himself sitting in front of Simon. Criss crossed.

Grace put his hands out between them forming a wall.

“Open the gate.” Grace instructed

Confused, Simon separated graces hands he figured was the “gate”

“Now who do you hate?”

“you.”

“Now that’s your date”😌

“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard Ryland.”

“No, I’ve got one even stupider.” Grace laughed

“Go ahead.”

Grace assumed the same position with his hands out in front of him creating a gate.

“Open the gate.”

Simon complied

Grace then put his pointer fingers together at the fingertips.

“Slice the pickle.”

Again confused Simon used his hand to karate chop the “pickle” in half.

“Tickle tickle.!!”

Grace wasted no time reaching through to tickle Simon’s stomach.

“AH ahaHAH.”

“Got you again!” Grace called out.

“Quit it! Simon yelped.”

Grace laughed just as hard as Simon as he prodded and scribbled his stomach.

“You and your stupid rhymes.. GOD DAMMIT!”

“Watch your mouth.”

“FUUHUCK YOU!”

“What? Does it tickle?”

“Yes wtf? AHAHAHHAhe”

Simons arm flailed desperately to try and push graces away but in the most of it all Grace took the high ground and climbed onto Simon’s legs to hold him down.

“Cmon Ry get offa me!”

“I just like to see you smile Si. It’s nice.”

Simon was embarrassed just hearing that.

“Don’t look at me.”
