For Gentaro, it's not weird. There's one portal that takes him to the time near the end of the Kaiju War, and one that's two decades later. He questioned it the first time, but seeing the calendar made him realize what was going on.
He has wondered what other people think of it, including one in particular. Addison. She's the daughter of one of the first Jaeger pilots he met, and he was there to babysit her a few times. But he's also seen her fully grown and ready to fight in her own war.
Today, he's visiting the older Addison, bringing along some coffee and cake. Once through the portal, he makes small talk with the security guards, before heading towards the hangar to find his twin-timelined friend.
