Tumblr Roleplay community PSA-Marking your blog NSFW will kick you in the ass.
This is a problem I’ve seen on my active RP accounts, and I don’t know if it’s a commonly-known fact, so here we go:
If you make a roleplay blog, It is in your best interest to never mark it NSFW.
There’s been some posts floating around about the NSFW marking for blogs and what it does exactly, but the explanation for it has been sort of engimatic, and I think that was intentional.
So here’s a really quick run-down.
Say that your blog is marked NFSW. And you go to make a starter for someone. Say this person follows you, even. So, you make the starter, and you tag them in it, so that they won’t miss it in the flood of the Dash.
If your blog is marked NSFW and theirs isn’t, even if they follow you, it will not show up in their tracked tags. There will be a number there, registering that there is a new post, but it will not show up.
EVEN if that blog is not in safe mode, and even if that blog has an of-age user, it will simply not show up.
This isn’t just for roleplay communities, it’s for everyone, too. If your blog is marked NSFW, people tracking the tags you use, even if they follow you, if they aren’t also NSFW, they won’t see it. For example, I just posted a headcanon thing, and my blog was marked NSFW when I first joined; I can’t un-mark it, and you never will be able to once you do. I know that this will not show up on any of the tags I showed it on, except for those other blogs that are also marked NSFW.
Your tags aren’t broken. When you see a little 1 there showing a new post, and it’s not there? It means that that person has a NFSW marked blog and you don’t, therefore, you cannot and will not see it.
