Random thought I just had, how likely is it that Watto was lying about the whole “I guarantee no one else has this part” thing? Cause like... he was more just than sort of a dick and business owners are not in the habit of telling you which competitor you can take your business to instead. That would be bad for business after all. Also how could he even know, the parts shops there were like going to a junkyard here and digging through things hoping to find what you need. I doubt the dealers on Tattoine had all fully cataloged every piece in their scrap yards and then shared that information with their peers and competitors.
So what if they took like, five minutes, to duck into another part’s dealer shop and found out that A) Watto was full of shit and B) Republic credits were fine. They could have been off Tattoine in like a day and saved everyone from having to watch the pod race (and you know the careless betting on a kid who had never finished a race, let alone won, and the moral ambiguity of Qui-Gon literally betting a ship he didn’t even own to receive ownership of a child). It would not have solved much but them taking the word of the first dealer they met that no one else in the entire town could help them is a bit much imo.
I should be doing so many things, studying for my Japanese test tomorrow, finishing starting my writing project for English, writing any of the like 40 wips I have sitting around and instead I am stuck on “What if Watto was a total douche canoe and lied to them and Qui-Gon didn’t buy his shit so easily?”
