We started our Vacation Bible School this week and our theme is “Cave Quest.” My friend Chloe and I were put in charge of The Cavern Cafe--aka where kids make snacks that correlate with the day’s Bible Lesson.
Today’s snack was a gummy bear burried under layer of goldfish and popcorn. Since the day’s theme was “Jesus Gives Us Hope”, I explained that an easy way to define hope was “looking forward to something good.” “You have to get through the layer of popcorn and goldfish first to get to the good stuff, and that’s what hope is.”
One of the kids in the class then proceeded to raise her hand and to ask “But why do we only get one of the good stuff?”
I was speechless. This wasn’t in our script! >.< I glanced around quickly, looking at Chloe, but she just looked back at me with blank face. All the kids were looking at me. I had to come up with something. And fast.
“Because there’s only one Jesus.”
