Cheers to the weekend guys! Today I brought you a real treat and educational post at the same time as we will taste two Crozes-Hermitages side by side! Crozes-Hermitage is the biggest AOP by hectares in the Northern Rhone Valley and Cave de Tain's @cavedetain main focus as you can taste 50 different expressions of this AOP alone from their range! We will have two of them, a Nobles Rives from 2018 and a plot selection with the very best selection of vineyards and 30 years old vines, the "Les Hauts du Fief" 2017. (Some technical informations about each wines can be found in my stories!) Let's see the differences! Both wine has a vivid deep ruby color and on the Nobles Rives (NR) I can detect some violet hue as well. A medium plus viscosity on the glass from both wines. The nose is expressive with black fruit aromas of dark cherries, plums, black currant and lots of spices which is common in Syrah, like black pepper, cinnamon and cloves. The HdF is riper and has more smokey and oaky character next to the dark chocolate and coffee in the NR. Dry wines with high alcohol as we would assume (14%) where the tannins are more integrated in HdF and also smoother. NR need more time to soften the tannins. On the palate NR showes more fruity flavours and freshness, HdF has again riper fruit characters, flowers and oaky vanilla taste. Long finish on the tongue for both wines. Very good quality wines, I would keep them for a further 10 years easily, the HdF maybe a little bit longer with a couple of years. Drink them on 16-18°C. Both pairs well with red meats, sausages, some hard cheese and stews or a charcuterie board. Which one would you open it for the weekend? . . . #winelovers #degustation #cavedetain #viticulturebio #organicwine #crozeshermitage #hermitage #winegrower #vignerons (at Wien, Österreich) https://www.instagram.com/p/CV5--ysNuKa/?utm_medium=tumblr
