Cavnav AU

Gideon is starting to have trouble sleeping, because her new necromancer adept doesn't seem to sleep at all.

She can hear the little ferret girl fussing, tidying up, practicing necromancy, or scream crying into her pillow.

Now, Gideon Nav is no fan of Harrowhark Nonagesmius. Make no mistake there, don't get your boxers in a bunch you freaks. She completely hates the bitch, who used to ambush her constantly in the hallways with devious and bony traps.

Who called her hateful names. Who consistently reminded her over and over again that she's property, and Harrowhark is her owner.

But Harrow helps her with her face paint, Harrow doesn't call her nasty names anymore. She calls her Gideon, or Nav when she's in a bad mood.

Even stranger, Harrow stands up for her. The Reverend Daughter scolded her own aunts for calling her a mongrel. "You shall not speak to my Cavalier this way." Said she, and her aunts cowered from her veiled wrath.

Harrow chastised Aiglamene for punching Gideon in the face when she got distracted during training. Harrow put her nose back together with a delicate tenderness that still makes Gideon's cheeks feel hot.

So, when she hears Nonagesmius whimper desperately one night... She grabs the stool from her desk, she opens her bedroom door, her only door.

The one that leads right into Harrowhark's bedroom.

She finds the nearly 13-Year-Old girl curled up on top of her silky covers. So tightly that Gideon is convinced she's going to have a migraine in the morning.

Harrow tells her to fuck off, tells her to go away, tells her not to worry.

And Gideon the Ninth, Cavalier primary, silently sits there at her bedside. She whispers words of comfort, telling the poor girl that she's safe.

They might have been enemies before, but Gideon means it with all her heart. Harrowhark is safe with her, and she'll do anything to keep her new charge safe.

She takes Harrow's bare hand, and Harrow shockingly permits it. She rubs Harrow's shoulder, and Harrow shockingly permits it.

And for the first time in a week, Harrowhark, haunted daughter of the ninth house, falls fast asleep. Breathing softly, peaceful even. Curled up like a little ferret.

And Gideon is struck by something then, that first night she sat by Harrow's bedside. Watching the little girl fall asleep, watching her give in and be vulnerable.

No one else has seen her like this, likely not even Ortus. Gideon dimly wonders if that's true, after all her room was once his... Right?

Gideon stays awake as long as she can, but when she inevitably wakes up she's in the bed. Tucked in with care.

And this, even a dumbass like Gideon knows that this is the start of something.

Things! Gideon trains, Harrow learns... with unseen help from someone.

And... Priam and Pellea start to notice something... Something strange indeed.

Cavnav. Au. More doodles. Gideon's early days as The Cavalier primary to the ninth house are... Strange and disorienting, but also kind of nice.

The Lord and Lady treat her with cold respect, she gets to train more, she has actual free time... and strangest of all...

Harrow doesn't try and murder her in the hallway anymore. In fact, on occasion, she sometimes...

Tolerable.

What in the name of God is happening?

Cavnav AU.

Gideon's new room is... More than she could have ever wanted out of life. It's funny, it never occurred to her that you could have furniture in your room.

Yet she does. She has a small stone wardrobe. A small desk, with a drawer (She hides her magazines in it). And a bed.

A real bed.

A comfortable, plush, squishy bed. With a blanket that isn't threadbare. She even has a FUCKING window!!! True, but you can't see anything out the window other than drillshaft.

But still!!!!

The only downside is that her room is connected to Harrowhark's...

Whatever, she can roll with that.

By and far I think the weirdest thing about cavnav au is going to be having Priam and Pellea present.

It just doesn't make sense for them to not be there. So yeah that's going to change a lot of things compared to canon.

They're both probably going to end up being better adjusted... You know really good friends. Roommates, even.
