As I’ve been remastering and rewriting my current fic/project, it’s really been giving me perspective on like. The value of characters who are objectively not good people, but who do good things.
Due to the nature of the source material, pretty much all of what I’m writing is coming directly from my own perspective and interpretations. Whenever I write something I’m really passionate about it often feels as though the characters are writing themselves, just using my hands. And I definitely feel that way here. Like I can feel the dissatisfaction with how canon was written and how their arcs were handled and they really want me to give them the depth they deserve.
Spoilers a little bit for the next installment but this is where I’m really thinking about The Phoenix Witch. Originally I wasn’t even going to include her at all, but I had this Epiphany, where something just dawned on me and it had to be written. It had to be said. It’s like: This is how she actually fits into this story. This is the character of The Phoenix Witch justifying her creation and meaning to a narrative that she will never have if I don’t write it, and this is the other characters pushing back on that existence. Which is. I feel that’s what her character is supposed to be. Representative of an innate dichotomy that I really want to hammer home with her appearance. And make her actually showing up meaningful. Instead of a vehicle for exposition.
Yes I absolutely feel this strongly about Danger Days fanfiction. It’s like my job now.
