Here's a funny thought: Ninja Theory's DMC is basically Bayonetta if it starred a man.

* Both star an amnesiac protagonist who is initially only out for themselves.

* Said protagonists are born of a forbidden union between heavenly and hellish aligned individuals that results in at least one parent severely punished.

* Both end up fighting their family members after having just remembered them.

* Look at the scene in which Dante flies through the air naked and gets dressed and tell me it doesn't look like the scenes in which Bayonetta strips and then redresses in the first two games.

* Bonus: Bayonetta is British and Ninja Theory is a British theme.

I can't argue with any of this. If Ninja Theory Dante had better and wittier one liners it would be an exact 1:1. The 2000s sexism even had Bayonetta facing her Corrupted Evil Dad while Dante faces the memory of his kind, Dead Mom Plot Device. Which is also what gender benders would do in fandom spaces at the time.

Dante's RV being so close to an amusement park because he's a clown, is the closest masculine level of ridiculousness as Bayonetta being a stripper nun in a graveyard. Fuck, now I'm doing all sorts of weird comparisons in my head which are based heavily upon old warner brother cartoons.

Thoughts on Lucia?

I never played DMC2, and most of my knowledge of it is second-hand, so keep that in mind.

Lucia is one of the better-written women in DMC, and I genuinely think she's gorgeous, interesting DT, interesting lore and concept, and generally a very cool character. However, she is intrinsically tied to a game that has Horrible Lore and generally sucks ASS. Capcom generally seems like they want to forget DMC2 was even a game, and I don't blame them.

As much as I like Lucia, the burden of accepting her into whatever content you write involves accepting everything in DMC2, which is a heavy weight I, personally, don't want to carry.

sometimes i think about like, the idea of people who have been in military or some sort of high stress situations and how something like the rain could be a low sensory type of thing???

i can maybe see her using it as a way to feel more grounded. i also think rain is fairly comfortable to be in if you are stressed and just need a place/time to relax and let the rain soak your clothes and your skin

obviously not everyone likes the rain though, so i think my own like of the rain is making my opinion biased loool

I'm up in Vancouver at the moment, so I took the opportunity to actually ask the Mainframe crew why Blackarachnia looks Asian. Apparently, it is a simple and somewhat amusing answer. The model designer himself was Asian. And the rest of the crew, desiring that BA be as sexy as possible (they are a young and horny bunch) hauled him off to a local strip joint, got him insane with lust, then plunked him down in front of his workstation and turned him loose. How do you think game Rouge would react to Dread?

all out war. god can you imagine. dread has a very pretty, very shiny rock that rouge would want. desperately. I think dread is less susceptible to emotional manipulation, at least the the same type of manipulation that rouge uses on regular knuckles, and also is a lot more unhinged. they are constantly getting into fights and playing keep away with the shard and pulling off elaborate and insane heists

Do you think the fact media often downplays female characters in comparison to male ones also plays a factor in how female characters are viewed in fandom?

yes but not to the degree a lot of people try to pretend it is. characters of all genders are written badly all of the time! yet when it comes to male characters, so many fans will go through hoops to rewrite them, and find a core to enjoy anyway; just look at the supernatural fandom. however this courtesy is not spared for female characters, instead theyre hated on, or ignored except to criticize the writer. and then even well written female characters have to fight for their fucking lives to be respected lol lets be real
