i would never trust a white writer to write think nor could i personally do it without more expensive therapy but id really like an adroit little fic where it really really clicks for cass for the very first time. where she’s out with steph at a cafe or something and she notices again the way people angle their body towards her is different than the way they do for cass and she catches a glimpse of their reflections in the glass and it’s not like she’s never noticed that she looks more like shiva than cain but it just kind of. clicks into place. its not that people can smell the blood on her hands or that they can tell she’s not used to speaking or any of that. it’s something worse. something immutable. something she never had a chance against.

i am pleased cass is so highly regarded as to be so highly nominated in the asian character poll while also acknowledging its mostly a runoff effect of broader batfam fandom popularity but at the same time it is kind of Hm that dc’s most popular asian character who is often the face of aapi efforts is the one who is perhaps the most thoroughly culturally (both mainland and diaspora) disconnected, isolated, and fragmented—and then that dissociation is very rarely acknowledged or recognized*. though arguably feeling culturally disconnected is a big asian diaspora moment anyway so maybe it warps around to amazing meta commentary

much has been said about how much of a downgrade the modern whitewashed goth girl raven is and all of that is true but what always gets me is that “girl with a lot of big emotions and anxieties about herself and family history that she vigilantly monitors behind a relatively flat affect” is like a top 3 asian girl archetype i have like three different desi friends who fit the bill and all of them write poetry. like shes soooooo asian to me you dont even know

Could you provide why you think Damian is 15? I thought he was 15 or 16 myself, but some people seem to think he is still 14, & I am double guessing myself now. Also, I could see Dick being 31. He is defin. somewhere between mid to late 20's to early 30's to me. The other Batkids ages make sense (tho sometimes I feel like some creators make Tim, Steph, & Damian seem more young visually and/or in behavior - less mature - than they actually are. Tho that may be purposeful sometimes w/ Tim?).

The very short version is that it's canonically been over a year and a half in-universe since the beginning of the Lazarus Tournament arc, when Damian was stated to be 14. Batman and Robin (2023) starts up the fall after the Lazarus Tournament (which takes place throughout the fall when Damian is 14), thus Damian must be 15.

The actual answer is that I'm insane and have a very detailed 9-10 page timeline tracking Tim's age from the Rebirth era to now and used a lot of Dick's and Damian's books as time progression signposts, since Damian has explicitly aged on-page in a way Tim hasn't and Dick's books often had time progression statements. For the Infinite Frontier through early Dawn of DC-era timeline (aka, 2021-2023), see these excerpts from the (still very much in-progress) timeline:

I do think the circus wasn’t like. The greatest operation just considering everything about it and I do think the animal welfare situation was probably dubious. And Dick will sometimes think back on it and get uneasy about it but crucially he would never actually acknowledge those flaws for the same reason he will never say ‘maybe I shouldn’t have been on the trapeze at four’ because that would taint his rose-tinted memories of his childhood with his parents. If he acknowledges the elephant’s situation he’s opening the door to acknowledging his own which he simply cannot do. In a sense Dick is the elephant

hi anon! we do sometimes delete asks with polls that we think are unnecessarily inflammatory, especially ones that are just inviting negativity (like "who's your least favorite x?").

that said, we're also not entirely sure what you're referring to here. you say we're being "offensive", so could you clarify what, specifically, we're doing that you find offensive, why it's offensive and what would you like us to do differently? we're also a little confused by the "malice and willful dismissal of every viewpoint that doesn't make good fodder for cheeky headcanon posts" part. what viewpoints are we dismissing? anyone can submit a poll, and we don't remove or hide replies/reblogs just because we disagree with them (outside of genuinely extreme cases).

as for "instigating and providing cover" yeah, we post polls about topics that people in the fandom already debate, and we include options we don't necessarily agree with because we're interested in seeing what the broader tumblr fandom actually thinks. some topics are more contentious than others, but the vast majority are ultimately low-stakes fandom discussions. every so often we'll post polls on more serious subjects (e.g. the sexualization of characters, or whether the court of owls is antisemitic), but those are the exception rather than the rule.

we also don't really know what you mean by "curb the worst responses." we don't monitor every reply, tag, or reblog, we don't want to do that, and realistically we couldn't even if we wanted to. this is a fandom sideblog run in our free time, tumblr's dashboard is notoriously unreliable, and one of the mods also has enough people blocked that we literally can't see some people's interactions. if your issue is with how people are voting or responding to the polls, that's really something to take up with the fandom at large rather than us. our polls are generally about topics that are already being discussed and debated within the fandom. we're not creating those conversations so much as providing a place for people to weigh in on them. and if the blog consistently isn't your thing, you're always welcome to block it.

and if you want to see polls covering a wider variety of subjects and characters, please submit your own suggestions! right now, most of the polls we post come from community submissions because we don't have much time to come up with new ideas ourselves. we'd love for everyone to contribute more!
