One reason why Bonnie didnt end up with Damon or Klaus is because then she’d HAVE to be put first and that doesn’t serve the narrative the writers wanted. It would make no sense for Klaus or Damon to let Bonnie continuously sacrifice herself so they had to keep her with lesser men and ruin her character development (because yes bonenzo was actually character ruining lol). Like these are two men who would kill anyone to protect who they loved so of course Bonnie can’t have that.
