The Tell Tale Heart: Colin Glass x Reader (CIA)

Summary: Colin notices that you still wear the necklace he gave you all those years ago.

You’re still wearing his heart.

Colin can see the outline of the silver pendent underneath the fabric of your t-shirt as you assess the bullet hole currently spewing blood out of Bobby’s right shoulder. You have the partner of his asset tipped onto his left side in the makeshift surgical suite that’s set up in the back of a pawn shop. The cold, clinical light above tilted is directly into the exit wound so you can survey the damage.

“Passed clean through between the scapular and the clavicle.” You tell Colin, your eyes flickering up to meet his before you tut. “Lucky boy from the trajectory.”

“That’s a lot of blood.” Bill remarks, settling back on his heels as he crosses his arms over his chest. “You’re a real doctor?”

“You wanna give him my credentials Glass?” Your tone is only moderately offended, the bet he can hope for with Bill’s prickly disposition. “Prove I’m not the town vet?”

“She’s part of the Special Operations Surgical Team.” He informs his FBI counter team, trying to keep the bite out of his voice. “One of the best aren’t you Lys? Or do you prefer Lieutenant Colonel these days?”

You want to flip him off, he can tell from the tension in your right arm and the expression on your face, but you already have your hands full and his own are covered in blood that’s starting to grow tacky and sticky.

It’s not the time or the place for old grievances, not in the middle of an op and not with Dudley Do-Right standing over his left shoulder, questioning every little thing that Colin does.

He turns up at your apartment that night instead, knuckles rapping lightly on the door in that code the two of you used to use. He half expects you not to answer but there are you clad in a SIX tank top and cycling shorts he’s drawn down your thighs many a time. The pendent still rests against your breastbone, the same way it has for the past five years outside of military operations.

“I should give it back to you.” You say as he reaches out to clasp it. His thumb traces over the Celtic pattern on the surface, his fingertips rubbing over the engraving underneath.

Seven words, inscribed by his Irish father as a gift to his English mother on the eve of their wedding day.

I dream of being with you. Forever.  

Something new, he had told his English Rose as he draped it around her delicate throat.

Something old for when you do find the one, she had told Colin when she’d placed it in his palm on her death bed.

And he had found her during an operation in Afghanistan almost a decade ago. They’d laughed together, lived together, and then… he’d lost her to duty, to honour and to all those other qualities he adored so much about her.

Military life, it’s a harsh mistress and so is that of a CIA officer.

Destined to love each other, fated to rarely exist in the same space.

It’s a tragedy that rivals any that Shakespeare ever wrote.

“No, you keep it.” His voice is gruff as he steps away, letting it go of it once more. “It’s right where it belongs.”

Do you know what I think would be interesting to see? I want to see Colin go too far during a case and get someone hurt. Preferably Bill (cause I love to do that to him) but Gina could work just as well. And I don’t mean Colin hurts Bill, I mean Colin crosses a line and his actions lead to Bill getting hurt.

Because this entire time we have seen Bill pull Colin back, we’ve seen Nikki convince him to reel it in. Even indirectly Gina being out in the field dampened Colin’s gung-ho cowboy shit down a little but he’s never done it willingly or thought about how his actions affect those around him. Case in point: Sarah. He tore that woman’s psyche apart due to his blazing trail of vengeance. He had NO plan for what came after when he finished his mission and he had no more use for Sarah. No plan.

Now that Colin has learned the truth about Toni he doesn’t need to tiptoe anymore so as to not get found out about his little crusade and have it shut down and he’s clearly still heartbroken so I expect him to just fling himself into danger whenever he can because it seems to me that he is just losing the will to play it safe.

So I really really want to see Colin do some dumb cowboy shit and get someone hurt so he can finally see that his ways don’t work when others are involved and he’ll finally tone it down a bit. We’ve already seen Bill “loosen up” a bit and maybe go a shade of grey in a few areas but so far Colin hasn’t changed. And I’m not saying he has to have a whole character arc in one season but I want to see it at some point. I want Colin to see that his actions have consequences and (to quote Colin from episode 8) “it’s not always you that pays.”

Cause that man can regurgitate the words but you know he thinks he’s above them. Also maybe it something bad happens to Bill because of Colin’s actions it will also force him to confront the fact that he is falling the fuck apart. He’s been running on emotion and a sense of righteous fury since we met him and it’s starting to affect him in the field. See: Andy, Sandy, and Toni.

I think it would be an interesting thing and realization to watch. Especially if it puts Bill into a really dangerous situation or get him really hurt so the facts leave Colin no where to hide.

bill needing a place to stay after 1x08 because of how bloodied he was after, and colin suggesting his place because he lowkey feels guilty.

cue colin going into caretaker mode against his will because he hates when the people he cares about are hurt, and whether he likes it or not - he actually does care about bill.
