Honestly might even scream-
But he always calms down when he realizes it's you
[though he might still be a bit shaky]
"Oh! H-hi y/n! I didn't see you there!"
Eventually, he'd get used to it and react normally to it
Always greets you with an excited "Hi y/n!!"
As for being mute, one of my personal headcanons is that he knows sign language!
So he'd be able to understand if you signed things to him
He'd probably sign back to you!
Would absolutely have a whole conversation with you like that
Of course, he'd use his voice to speak to you as well, he knows you can hear him
You'd catch him off guard a lot because of it
He might get a bit frustrated with it, but he knows you don't do it on purpose
He'd try to hide it but he definitely jumps a little because of it
He might sound a bit sour about it but I promise he's not mad at you
He just spooks easier than he'd like to admit
He doesn't know sign language or anything so you'd have to write stuff for him
He relies on signs from your body language a lot too
So even if your demeanor is slightly off he'll ask what's wrong
He might not show it well but he does care about you
He'll act irritated by it, honestly
"What the fuck, y/n? Stop doing that!"
He knows you don't do it on purpose, though
He tries not to be too harsh about it
I mean he doesn't wanna hurt your feelings, you're his friend after all
Eventually, he'd get used to it though, and react a bit more neutrally
He knows a bit of sign language thanks to David
But your best bet's just to write him notes and stuff
